Fence Design: Berkeley, CA LDA 21, 2002 Vectorworks

1

In this project my goal was an innovative fence design utilizing new technology uncommon to fences. I also wanted to use materials uncommon to fences. The panels are a herringbone pattern of brass and copper. The brass will keep its color and the copper will patina into beautiful greens and blues quickly in Berkeley’s coastal climate. Photovoltaic solar panels on the post caps collect energy for theirLED lights and programmable rising sun light in the remote controlled gate.

The project on top is an entry sign design for Veteran’s Memorial Park in the city of American Canyon. I created all necessary sections and details to build the sign and completed a 3D CAD model as well.

Below is a spectrum of details that I have edited and created for various applications.

Planning: LDA 180-181 i 2006 Multiple

In this project my partner and I were asked to create a master plan in order to revitalize the dilapidated Redding river waterfront. We used AutoCAD to trace a digital image of the site that we found online. I imported it into Photoshop and colored it, while she did our Sketchup details. Image shown at just over 50% original size.

Left Page: In this project groups of 7-8 designed a conceptual master plan for a water related museum on the Sacramento River in Sacramento, CA. First we all did plans on our own (mine is on the adjacent page), then we got into our group and molded our individual plans together into our group’s conceptual plan for

the museum architecture, the surrounding park’s elements including sustainable storm water treatment, the California Water Discovery Center. Our nal product was a 20 page 11x17” booklet with images showing

an accessible inlet with docks and water activities, and text explaining the museums interactive displays.

to revitalize downtown Winters. I illustrated our groups ideas

mine shown below). We used Vectorworks and hand rendering.

Ecological: LDA 180-181 f 2007 Multiple

In this project my partner and I were asked to create a Davis regional ecological master plan. The assignment involved looking at four umbrella species and evaluating their habitat requirements to decide the best areas to conserve and restore. We choose the Chinook salmon, Tiger salamander, Swainson’s hawk, and the American raccoon. For each species, we created habitat suitability maps utilizing GIS and the CWHR system. We changed the suitability colors to a grey scale and overlaid the maps at reduced opacities in Photoshop; the darkest greys were “most suitable.”

Ecological: LDA 180-181 f 2007 Multiple

3 In this project my group was asked to create a park master plan for the North Stonegate Ponds Wildlife Area in Davis, CA. The site serves as a detention basin for Davis’ stormwater. Therefore, we had to deal with the seasonal water

total water capacity built into our design. We designed a wildlife crossing under Lake Blvd. to maintain a connection to the West Davis Ponds, which is located just east of our site. We used Adobe Illustrator to create our project packet, Photoshop for our master plan and sections (page 8), and AutoCAD paired with GIS for our water level diagrams.

All images on these two pages were

11x17” or cropped from 11x17”.

As shown, they are not to scale.

4 The section above is from a Mediterranean style design for LDA 70. The pastel plan view is from a Sacramento Central Park design for LDA 170. The golf pose was hand painted from a picture using Photoshop for LDA 23.

The lower images are from a hand drafted planting plan for a residence in Napa, LDA 191- Plant Design.

Resort: Golfplan 2007-2010 Multiple

To the left is a Master Plan for a resort development in India (Photoshop). I designed all the tree plantings for the Landscape Plan below (AutoCAD). The sketches were drawn with charcoal pencil and then I edited and colored them in Photoshop. The other resort Master Plan is for a golf and sailing club in Kampala, Uganda(Photoshop).

Photoreal: Golfplan/Contract 2008-2010 Photoshop

/56

Shown above are simulations of what proposed Golfplan designs will look like on top of site images of the existing conditions. These start as charcoal sketches of the design and are edited and colored in Photoshop. It is then carefully placed into the site image and made to look like it exists there now.

windows with large shrubs or putting down gravel mulch and then digging through it to plant.

For the above project I was hired to do labor on demo, concrete, grading, sprinkler install, and plant install. It was for Weather Mountain Construction in Blue Lake.

The below project was an almost 3-acre front and backyard design/build in Orangevale with a tight $15,000 budget. Grapes and trellices, a vegetable garden, fruit trees, plants for all life

voltage lighting, and a combined 12-valve irrigation system with rain and freeze sensors serving the front and back yards were installed.

On top is a small woodland planting bed built into a hot tub deck & stump; a concrete block retaining wall with weeping tile, a planting bed, & a moss growth mixture applied to the blocks; & a Trex planter box with draining concrete footings & drip. On bottom is a grown native moss & Turfstone permeable driveway with a Permaloc edging system, buried new water & hd cable lines, & diverted drainage.

This is a remodel of three overgrown planting beds. I kept the mature trees, lamb’s ears, & some lavender. I pruned the trees & lavender; hand weeded; planted in a 1:1 mix of on-site native soil & planting mix that I amended with soil building compost & mycorrhizal fungi; added new mulch; & organically fertilized.

Design/Build: Gaia’s Landscaping 2011 CAD & Hand

6

This is a small Asian inspired relaxation garden. The waterfall serves as a noise buer as well as a visual buer with the aid of the plantings. The focal point is the 6 foot tall waterfall that ows down agstones supported by both sustainably harvested local river rocks & black granite. Wire mesh was installed a few inches below the pond liner to protect it from gophers.

6

Design/Build: Gaia’s Landscaping 2010-2012 CAD & Hand

At this property I solved water quality issues & designed & installed an oyster shell leech basin to regulate water pH; xed & maintained the irrigation system & low voltage light-ing; pruned all the plants & organically fertilized them & the lawn; & utilized integrated pest management prac-tices as needed.

Design/Build: Gaia’s Landscaping 2012-2014 CAD & Hand

6

Above is a bunker that I designed and installed. About 12 cubic yards of soil was removed and graded into mounding. A french drain with perf pipe, gravel, and lter fabric protects from surface ow; drainage within the bunker is in the style of the newly built top tour courses. The sand is a PGA approved white sand that we had to bring in from over 200 miles. The shape is held by burlap sacks lled with soil, compost, and seed. Once the grass grows the detailed edge will be cut. We seeded at a 20 times “normal” rate with varieties appropriate for the microclimate. Below are two sets of small residential design and build jobs. Both of them included design, demo, integrated pest management, pruning, planting and fertilizing, automatic drip irrigation, mulch and weed suppression, and long-term maintenance.

6

Design/Build: Gaia’s Landscaping 2013-2014 CAD & Hand

The waterfall on top was a complete redesign of a leaking waterfall with new parts and seals, new mulch, rock work, plants, and moss. The lower pictures show three dierent projects where I did design, demo, pruned the plants to remain, added new plants and fertilized, new mulch and weed suppression, drip irrigation, and maintenance.
