Herman L. Glatt, a founder of the law firm of Stutman, Treister & Glatt, and a luminary in the field of bankruptcy and corporate restructuring, died on September 8 at sea just offshore of Charleston, South Carolina. Mr. Glatt was on a cruise with his wife celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary. He was 84. Mr. Glatt was an innovator in his field and widely- regarded for his creative approach to problem solving. He served as Chairperson of the Business Bankruptcy Committee of the Business and Banking Section of the American Bar Association, and was a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy. Mr. Glatt also taught at the University of Southern California School of Law, and served as an adjunct professor of law at Loyola University School of Law. Mr. Glatt was born in New York on May 3, 1929. In his youth, he attended Franklin & Marshall College, UCLA and the Harvard Law School. While attending law school, Mr. Glatt served in the Army and was sta- tioned in England during the Korean War. In 1955, he joined the firm now known as Stutman, Treister & Glatt, which specializes in business bankruptcy and corporate restructuring, and he remained with the firm for more than fiſty years. Mr. Glatt was a nation- ally-known leader in the field of corporate reorganiza- tion, having represented clients such as Itel Corpora- tion, Storage Technology, Doskocil/Wilson Foods, the Hunt Brothers, John DeLorean, and the Public Service Company of New Hampshire. Aside from his love of law, Mr. Glatt was an avid sports fan. Being from New York, he was a lifelong Yankees fan. He was also a long-time devoted supporter of UCLA Bruin athletics. He spent the majority of his later years traveling the world, and developed a true passion for ocean cruises. During his travels, he en- joyed sampling diverse cuisines and developed a palate for fine wines. He also was a voracious reader, and en- joyed crossword puzzles. He valued his friends, family, and had a love of fine art. Mr. Glatt is survived by his wife Jeanne, and their chil- dren Wendy Glatt, Russell (Mercy) Glatt, Tina-Marie (Denis) Gauthier, Jessica Glatt, Adam Glatt, Darla White, and Scott (Alissa Bach) White; and five grand- children: Chloe Gauthier; Dillon Timmer; and Aidan, Eva, and Gunnar White. A public service will be held at Hotel Bel-Air on Saturday, October 5, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Kurzman Karelsen & Frankmourn the death of our partner,

Frank E. Karelsen, III. Frank was the leader of the firm’s cooperative

housing legal practice for decades and was responsible for the creation of many of the leading cooperative apartment building in New York City. He was a strong supporter of the idea that apartment dwellers in the

City should own their own homes. His influence will continue for a long time.

Frank was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ursula.

We extend our condolences to Frank’s children, Frank, Juliet and Eva.

KNOWLES—Clayton P. Jr. The New York Law School community mourns the passing of Clayton P. Knowles Jr., Class of 1971, a New York entertainment lawyer whose clients included the actress Erin Gray, jazz keyboard-ist Kim Pensyl, and many 1980s rock groups including Twisted Sister. Mr. Knowles himself was an accomplished professional musician. Over the years he played guitar and sang at clubs from Greenwich Village to the Upper East Side, and his band played at functions and venues across the city and New Jersey. Mr. Knowles served as a Second Lieutenant in the Army’s 1st Air Cavalry Division during the Viet-nam War, from 1965 to 1966. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Air Medal. The Law School is proud of his service and many accomplish-ments. We extend our condolences to his wife, Renata Renner Knowles; his brother, Jeffrey D. Knowles, Class of 1975 and Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees; and his sister, Laurie Knowles. Arthur N. Abbey, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and Anthony W. Crowell, Dean and President.

Scheuer, Thomas (Tom),

age 85, of Greenwich, CT.,

passed away on July 27, 2013. Beloved husband and love of his life of

Ann Fimmano Scheuer, he will be greatly missed by his brothers Robert [Gloria,

deceased] and James [Ruth]; his children Todd [Luciana], Gwenn [Bill] and Chris

[Noz]; and stepchildren Carl [Ande], Rindy [David, deceased] and Jerry [Mary];

and his eleven grandchildren. Tom was one-of-kind, whose love of family and friends was never ending. He lived a

vibrant and diverse life, driven and defined by his passion for intellectual growth and his personal ethical code. A graduate of

Columbia Law School in 1953, he deeply enjoyed practicing law well into the last years of his life, most recently as Chief

Council of Louis Dreyfus Commodities. He also served as Chairman of the National

Committee for Effective Congress, as an advisor to the Columbia Law School

Association and president of their Board of Visitors, and as the chair of the Ethical

Culture Fieldston School. Throughout his life, Tom was an active athlete. He was an

avid horseman for many years and a dedicated cyclist, runner, swimmer and

skier. Tom was a wonderful man who will always be remembered for his love of life,

generosity, intellect and eloquent command of the written and spoken word. A private celebration to honor

Tom’s life will be held at a later date.

Jeff was a graduate of the University of Arizona, received two mastersdegrees from Gratz College and was working as the DevelopmentAssociate at Hunter College Hillel. He was President of the MetroCats,the New York chapter of the University of Arizona Alumni Association,and was an avid student of folk music, volunteering each year at theClearwater folk festival. Jeff embraced life to the fullest and will beremembered for his infectious personality and positive spirit.

passed away with his family by his side on April 22, 2013 at the age of 80.

Visiting will be held in Paul Ippolito Summit Memorial,

7 Summit Ave., Summit on Thursday, April 25th and

Summit on Saturday, April 27th for the Funeral Mass to begin at 9:00 AM.

Mr. Martine was born in Brooklyn, NY and lived in Queens for many years

before settling in Summit for the past 35 years.

Louis received his Law Degree from Fordham Law School. In 1958 he and his childhood friend Walter McMahon,

founded the firm that is now known as McMahon, Martine & Gallagher.

Lou developed a reputation as a fierce and competitive, yet inherently trustworthy trial attorney throughout NYC. He was regarded as a true professional and a worthy

advocate by his clients, the bench and his adversaries alike, recently winning the lifetime achievement award by the Defense Association of New York. Lou was still actively

practicing at the time of his death.He served his country in the Army and held close to

his devotion to our country as a member of the American Legion.

He will be remembered as always living by his credo, “God, family, country.” And through his sense of humor,

loyalty and devotion to always trying to do “what is right”, his friends, which he considered his family,

numbered in the thousands.Louis is the beloved husband of Marie (nee Dimeck,)

married for 49 years; loving father of Louis (Kathleen) Martine of Minnesota, Gina (Andrew) Wood of Mendham and Anthony (Lynn) Martine of Madison and he was the legal guardian of Joseph Orifici; cherished grandfather of Andrew, Daniel, Brendan, Eric, Marie, Madeleine, Mary, Elaina, Matthew, Anthony and Thomas; also survived by

many loving nieces, nephews and friends. He was pre-deceased by his sister, Florence Martine and his

brother John Martine.

LOUIS J. MARTINEJanuary 15, 1933 – April 22, 2013

Born and raised in Brooklyn, he was a graduate of

St. Peters College and Fordham Law School Class of 1958. He was admired and respected by his clients,

Conway Award from the DANY for upholding the highest ethical and professional standards of the
