and complete cure is attained. Believed to be the first acrylic

adhesive available in pre-mix form, Bostik Hyperbond has already found applications in the automo- tive industry, and is being used to bond PVC rooflights, and super-

market shelving. It has been recom- mended by British Steel Corporation for use with Stelvetite and Zintec. It may be used to bond metals, plastics, and wood.

Four new adhesives introduced into Croda's range

Croda Adhesives Limited, UK, have introduced several new grades of adhesives into their existing ranges.

For packagers of food and con- fectionery, Crodafix 28-151 O0 rep- resents a breakthrough in adhesive f o r m u l a t i o n - allowing the three operations of forming, filling, and sealing, on machines such as the Hesser, to be carried out with one adhesive. Cost benefits are achieved in the fast, clean running of the operations, plus a reduction in adhesive grade stocking.

Also for packaging, Crodafix 27- 14500 is a copolymer emulsion adhesive, specially developed for bonding to 'difficult' surfaces, such as uv lacquered and film laminated cartons. This is described as a clean-running and fast setting adhesive for use on machines such as the Speedking and Bobst.

For use with continuous furniture panel lamination techniques, Crodafix 28-22500 is a water-based emulsion which wil l allow bonding of paper, foil, or continuous decora- tive laminate to chipboard using a Diefenbaker type machine. Crodafix 28-22500 is said to give very aggressive warm/hot tack and good adhesion to a variety of foils which are subsequently semi-dried and hot-nipped to the chipboard base. Thus flat lamination and profile lamination are achieved in one operation.

Crodafix 36-86800 is a low vis- cosity hot-melt adhesive with a 'tolerant' open time suitable for use on machines such as the Fritz for profile laminating wood veneer, PVC, and paper foils to chipboard. A high-mileage is claimed for this adhesive.

Apparatus for spraying quick-curing adhesives available

The quick and even spraying of rapid-curing resin adhesives can be facilitated by the use of refrigerated compressed air driers, supplied by Deltech Engineering Limited. This type of adhesive is widely used in the furniture manufacturing and woodworking industries for product assembly and for bonding decora- tive laminates to sheet material. However, the adhesives rely on moisture in the atmosphere to act as a curing catalyst and care therefore has to be taken when applying them by means of air- operated spraying equipment, By

using a Deltech drier, moisture is removed from the compressed air used to operate spray guns.

In the Deltech system, an air-to- air heat exchanger is used to pre- cool compressed air before it enters the refrigerated chiller, thus lessening the load on the chiller. Within the chiller, water vapour in the compressed air is condensed and then removed from the air stream by a separator.

Automatic dispensing system will benefit the automotive industry

A system which allows dispensing or placing of adhesives or sealants exactly where required has been developed by Kent-Moore UK Limited. Precise metering leads to economic use of materials.

The most recent system introduced to the automotive indus- try is a liquid gasket dispensing system. Microprocessor-controlled, the system can be programmed to sense the shape of a component placed in the system, enabling the fluid to be dispensed to the exact configuration that the component requires. For repetitive work, the required program is burned into a 'chip' while the master copy is retained on tape, Varying compo- nent shapes may be stored on individual tapes and inserted as required. Other types of "formed in place' gasket systems are also available.

High performance adhesive tape for industrial use

For applications where high perfor- mance and removability are required, Chemtrol Adhesives Inc have introduced Chemtrol C-570 to their range of pressure-sensitive tapes for industrial use. C-570 is constructed from a 0.013 mm polyester carrier, coated on one side with a high-tack removable acrylic adhesive and with a high shear, permanent acrylic adhesive on the other. It is available self- wound on a polycoated differential release liner and has a shelf life of one year, when stored at 22°C and 50% RH. Surfaces should be clean, dry, and free from oil or grease before application. C-570 exhibits good resistance to both gasoline and lubricating oil and fair resis- tance to water and salt water, and both sides remain effective in a temperature range of -- 18°C to 65.5°C.
