We continue to receive regional and provincial funding to support our nourish-ment program, however a lot of the funding does rely on parental contributions. Please ensure you sign up to online payment to contribute to your child’s fuel program.

Lunches (Peanut Free) If you are bringing your child’s lunch to school, please leave it on the table in our front lob- by, clearly labelled with your child’s name. Inform your child in advance that his/her lunch will be left at this lunch table to be picked up by him/her at noon.

Please do not go to your child’s class without first checking in the office.

Safe Arrival Program If your child is going to be late or absent , please telephone and inform the office in advance at 905-477- 1019. Also note, if you know your child will be absent on any other particular day, please let the office or your child’s teacher know in advance. In the event that we cannot reach a parent or an emergency con-tact, the police will be notified.

Are you curious to learn what this “New Math” is that your children have been talking about? Or have you ever asked yourself one or more of the following questions: Why is my child not using a textbook as often as he/she used to? Why isn’t my child doing math tests as often as before? What about the basis facts (+, -, x, etc.)? Is there still homework and why isn’t there more math homework being sent home? To help keep you in the loop, Highgate P.S. will be hosting this Amazing Race Math Night on April 6th, 2017 from 6:30p.m. to 8:00p.m. You are invit-ed join us in exploring the answers to these questions. Also, you will experi-ence the hands-on opportunity to participate with your child(ren) in doing the types of math they are doing in class e.g., problem solving, math games, puzzles and mini-lessons. As a bonus, all families attending will receive a “Math Swag Bag” (1 per family) filled with exciting math resources, manipu-lative and a few math games that can be used at home to support child’s learning throughout the year!

During the month of April, we try to resume some healthier lifestyle habits

to help us get rid of the winter blahs. One thing that you can do is join us

for WALKING WEDNESDAYS. Every Wednesday, staff and students will be participat-

ing in getting some extra steps in as they walk as a group at recess. You can join

us at home by enjoying a family walk in the evening after dinner. You

can meet other families, or start a walking club with neighbors. Every

step counts. We want you to get out and get active!!!

April, 2017 It is hard to believe that we only have 3 months left to the school year. The next few months will fly by, so remember to take the time to ensure that your child is keeping up with homework and assignments and putting in full effort, as we work towards ending their current grade and moving into the next one. As the weather is getting warmer, encourage your child to play outside which supports physical activity. It is also a good time to start thinking about summer plans and the activi-ties your child will be engaged in. If you are looking for information or have any questions, please see the office.
