KUWAIT: His Highness the AmirSheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah received at Seif Palace yester-day Minister of Health and Chairmanof Public Authority for Food andNutrition (PAFN) Dr Ali Saad Al-Obaidi, and the authority’s officialsSaleh Al-Humaidhi, Musaed Saleh Al-Abdali, Nawal Majran Al-Hamad, AmalAl-Rashdan, Abdulaziz Al-Samhanand Reem Al-Fulaij. His Highness theAmir met with these officials on theoccasion of their appointment at theauthority. His Highness the CrownPrince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness thePrime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah alsoreceived minister Obaidi and thePAFN officials.
Meanwhile, His Highness the Amirreceived Minister of Public Works andMinister of State for NationalAssembly Affairs Ali Al-Omair, whopresented the newly appointed presi-dent of the Public Authority for
Agricultural Affairs and FishResources (PAAAFR) Faisal Saud Al-Hasawi. Omair later presented thenew officials to His Highness theCrown Prince and His Highness thePrime Minister.

ballot boxes
KUWAIT: The NationalAssembly’s General Secretariatyesterday received all ballotboxes and official results of thethird constituency by-electionsfor 2016, announced theAssembly’s Secretary GeneralAllam Al-Kandari.
Kandari noted that accord-ing to article number 39 ofKuwait’s elections law, thechairman of the polling com-mission is tasked with handingthe boxes to the secretariat.The boxes will remain at theassembly’s body until all protestations were studied beforereturning them to the Ministry of Interior, he added. Speakerof the National Assembly Marzouq Al-Ghanem declared theseat of the third constituency vacant after the passing awayof late MP Nabil Al-Fadhel on January 12. — KUNA

KUWAIT: The Ministry of Information incooperation with the US Embassy held ajoint event yesterday at the National Libraryto commemorate the 25th anniversary ofthe Liberation of Kuwait. A documentaryfilm on the liberation was shown during theevent.
Assisting Undersecretary for the ForeignMedia Sector at the Ministry of InformationFaisal Al-Mitlagim spoke on America’s role insupporting Kuwait. “The bilateral relationsbetween our countries are special and rep-resent a model of real friendship betweencountries and nations,” he said during theevent representing the Minister ofInformation and State Minister for YouthAffairs Sheikh Salman Al-Humoud Al-Sabah.“This friendship goes back decades sincethe first US consulate opened in Kuwait inthe 1950s. The United States played animportant role in supporting Kuwait duringthe invasion, which was supported by boththe US leadership and the nation,” added Al-Mitlagim.
US Ambassador to Kuwait DouglasSilliman addressed the gathering, notingthat he is glad to be participating in thisevent as all the nations of the coalitioncame together to celebrate the 25thanniversary of the liberation of Kuwait. “Thisoccasion, this week’s events and celebra-tions, provide us the opportunity to reflecton our nations’ shared experiences of 25years ago - experiences that cemented the
bonds of friendship that unite our peopletoday,” he said.
Shared friendship, historyAmbassador Silliman also spoke about
the sacrifices. “We should remember thesacrifices of the generation of Kuwaitis wholived through those terrible days of occupa-tion and who helped rebuild Kuwait intothe free and modern state in which we livetoday. Let us remember the sacrifices of the700,000 American service men and womenwho left their family and friends at home tofight for the liberation of Kuwait,” stressedSilliman.
He called for using these shared experi-ences to look to the future. “Let us look to afuture of strengthened partnership, a futureof shared peace and security, and a future ofprosperity for our children and our grand-children. Let us look to a future where theUnited States and Kuwait work together tobuild new economic and educationalopportunities for our children, cooperate topreserve and maintain our environment,and collaborate to address the security chal-lenges of the region,” he pointed out.
“This is how we truly honor those menand women who sacrificed so much so thatwe could live in a free Kuwait and pursuethese lofty goals. That is their challenge tous, and that, indeed, is our true opportunity,”concluded Silliman. Former United StatesAmbassador to Kuwait immediately afterliberation, Edward Gnehm provided shortremarks about his experience.

KUWAIT: First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of ForeignAffairs Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah receivedyesterday a written letter from Thailand Foreign Minister DonPramudwinai. The letter highlighted bilateral relations and
ways to boost them in all fronts, including issues on mutualconcerns. The letter was delivered to Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled,during a reception at the foreign ministry headquarters andwas handed over by Thailand Special envoy to the Foreign
Minister Dr Surin Pitsuwan. The meeting also tackled topics oncurrent cooperation between the two countries, and develop-ment in the region and international arena. The meeting wasattended by senior foreign ministry officials. — KUNA

KUWAIT: The Government Per formanceFollow-Up Apparatus signed a Memorandumof Understanding (MoU) with KuwaitUniversity (KU) yesterday aimed to benefitfrom the latter’s consulting and academicexperiences. The agreement also aims to raisethe level the performance of the apparatusand develop the working system, the appara-
tus said in a statement. The MoU was signedby Head of the Government PerformanceFollow-up Apparatus Sheikh Ahmad MeshalAl-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and KuwaitUniversity President Dr Hussein Al-Ansari, thestatement added.
