History of Atomic Theory Timeline Project

Directions: We are soon going to be learning about key scientists that were involved in the history of atomic theory. The process of science is obvious throughout several centuries as these scientists developed a deeper understanding of what the atom looks like. This project will allow you to create a tangible timeline in which all the information regarding the history of atomic theory is in one place.

Part I – Research

Using the Internet, the textbook, and your notes, research what information you want to put in your timeline. You MUST have the following people in your timeline: John Dalton Democritus Robert Millikan Ernest Rutherford James Chadwick Erwin Schrodinger Niels Bohr Werner Heisenberg

For each of the people above, you need to explain the following: a) What information did they contribute to the understanding of the atom? b) What important experiments (if any) did they perform? With an explanation c) A picture of what they believed the atom looked like (if applicable).

Part II – Construction of the timeline

Your timeline must be in chronological order and be turned in on one of the following:

a) Use a timeline making website. There are lots of good ones if you search for them on Google (I don’t want to restrict you from any of them).

b) Create a video or vodcast that has all the essential elements. Vodcasts can be created using an iPad, iMovie, Windows Movie Maker, etc.

c) If you have another idea please come and see me. I do NOT want a powerpoint.

Your project must have a works cited (bibliography please use MLA format, just a list of websites will not be accepted) that accompanies your project. Please make sure that you cite your sources properly! If you complete this digitally please email to [email protected] with the subject line ‘Last name, First name Honors Chem PROJECT’

This project is worth a test grade, and is due on Tuesday January 16th, 2018.
