The Precepts of the Church

1. Participate in Mass on Sundays and holy days of obligation, and rest from unnecessary work.

2. Confess sins at least once a year.

3. Receive Holy Communion at least during the Easter season.

4. Observe the prescribed days of fasting and abstinence.

5. Provide for the material needs of the Church, according to one’s abilities.

Penitential Act* (Confiteor)

I confess to almighty God

and to you, my brothers and sisters,

that I have greatly sinned,

in my thoughts and in my words,

in what I have done and in what I have

failed to do,

through my fault, (lightly strike chest over heart with right fist)

through my fault, (lightly strike chest over heart with right fist)

through my most grievous fault; (lightly strike chest over heart with right fist)

therefore I ask

blessed Mary ever-Virgin,

all the Angels and Saints,

and you, my brothers and sisters,

to pray for me to the Lord our God.
