Pastor’s Poetry Post-Its

Blessings today to all the dads! Despite Jesus’ scolding us to “call no man on earth your father.” (Matthew 23:9), we do! Today as we honor all those men whom we call “father,” we are mindful of the second part Jesus’ injunction: “You have but one Father in heaven.” In other words, all fatherhood comes from God. No matter what Ancestry.com says, we are God’s children first. He loans us out to the mere mortals who raise us and prepare us to return to Him. We pray for those men God has entrusted to represent Him in the family. They stand-in until one day God Himself welcomes us home. We pray for those fathers no longer with us, that they receive an eternal high five from Our Father Who Art in Heaven. May all of our dads always take their cue from “The big guy” who loves us even more than they do.

Fr. Hugh, OP

“Thank You, Father”

Fathers hold you when you have bad dreams

And they comfort you when all is lost it seems.

Fathers teach you to dribble a basketball and shoot a free throw

And they lead you as you grow.

Fathers teach you how to drive a car

And they try to teach you how to putt for par.

Fathers wipe the tears of your broken heart

And they hold your hand when you don’t know how to start.

Fathers quiz the boys who take you on a date

And they scold those boys who bring you home late.

Fathers carry you on their shoulders when you’re too small to see

And they watch you as you giggle when they bounce you on their knee.

Fathers extend their feet to you when they teach you how to dance

And they always give you a second chance.

Fathers wait in the wings as you start your own life

And they pray for a husband to make you a wife.

Fathers walk you down the aisle on your wedding day

But fathers never really give their little girls away.

MASS FOR HEALING Holy Rosary Church,

170 Bradhurst Avenue, Hawthorne

Monday, July 2nd

Praise & Worship at 7:15pm; Mass at 7:30pm Celebrant: Fr. Luke Leighton, CFR.

ELEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Gospel: Mark 4:26-34

“Jesus said to the crowd: ‘This is how it is with the reign of God. A man scatters seed on the ground. He goes to bed and gets up day after day. Through it all the seed sprouts and grows without his knowing how it happens.’ ‘It is like a mustard seed which when planted in the soil, is the smallest of all the earth’s seeds, yet once it is sown, springs up to become the largest of shrubs’…By means of many such parables he taught them the mes-sage in a way they could understand…”

“25th & 50th” WEDDING ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION Holy Innocents is planning a celebration on Sunday, October 7th for those parishioners who are celebrating their 25th or 50th Wedding Anniversary during 2018. Participants will be recognized at the 11am

Mass followed by a reception in our Social Hall. If you are celebrating either Wedding Anniversary this year, please register with the parish office by calling 769-0025.

The Music Ministry of Holy Innocents is blessed with gifted individuals who willingly share their time and talents each week. This year three of our talented members will graduate high school. They have each uniquely touched and added to our ministry and we continue to share their stories over these weeks leading up to graduation. Katherine Stargiotti has been a member of the Music Ministry since the first grade. She began with the Junior choir and then moved into the Teen Choir and became one of our Teen cantors for the Saturday 5:15 PM vigil mass. Katherine has a beautiful voice and is a talented sight singer. The choir has been especially enriched by utilizing her ability to add Alto harmony. During her four years at Pleasantville High School, (PHS), Katherine has participated in Camerata, the select girls acapella choir, serving as President this year. Her musical talent has been recognized by her selection to Area All State Chorus, All State Chorus and All Eastern Chorus. This year she served as the President of Tri-M Music Honor Society and Vice-President of the Thespian Honor Society. She has also participated in the PHS musicals, and the Archbishop Stepinac High School drama club. In addition to music and theater, Katherine is a member of the National Honor Society, of which she is co-president, Treasurer of the Italian National Honor Society, and a member of the Science National Honor Society. Katherine also participated in JV and then Varsity soccer throughout High school, as well as the AYSO Soccer teams, and Girl Scouts. Katherine has interned at the Farmer’s Market, and most Saturday mornings she is busy working at Aba’s Falafel stand. In the Fall Katherine will attend Carnegie Mellon University, she is not sure yet what her major will be. She plans to continue her music and theater experiences and education, and will actively participate in the student clubs available to her. The Music Ministry has been the beneficiary of the participation of the musically talented Stargiottis and we are very grateful! Katherine is the third of Joe and Katie's four daughters and each has brought their family’s warmth and spirit to our musical family. It has been our privilege to work with and make music with Katherine. She has a great sense of humor in addition to her musical talent and has livened up many rehearsals. Katherine is a daughter of our parish who has been a consistent model of service and volunteerism by sharing her gifts with all of us. We know her future is a bright one, and we, along with you, will continue to support her efforts with our prayers and encouragement as she begins this next chapter of her life! Congratulations Katherine!

A Prayer for Fathers

God, our Father, we give you thanks and praise for fathers young and old.

We pray for young fathers, newly embracing their

vocation; may they find courage and perseverance to balance work, family and faith

In joy and sacrifice.

We pray for our own fathers around the world whose children are lost or suffering;

may they know that the God of compassion walks with them in their sorrow.

We pray for men who are not fathers

but still mentor and guide us with fatherly love and advice.

We remember fathers, grandfathers, great grandfathers

Who are no longer with us but who live forever in our memory

and nourish us with their love.

Amen.

Happy Father’s Day to all of our Fathers!
