WE Remember

In November

ALL SAINT’S DAY All Saint’s Day celebrates all those

who have entered heaven, including saints recognized by the Catholic Church

& those who are not. It is a Holy Day of Obligation & is celebrated annually on November 1st. Holy Spirit’s Mass times are 7:00AM and 6:00PM on Tuesday, November 1st.

ALL SOUL’S DAY

All Soul’s Day is November 2nd, & is dedicated to those who have died & not yet reached heaven. The importance of

All Soul’s Day was made clear by Pope Benedict XV (1914-22), when he

granted all priests the privilege of celebrating three Masses on All Souls Day: one for the faithful departed; one for the

priest’s intentions; & one for the intentions of the Holy Father. There are only a few important feast days where priests are

allowed to celebrate more than two Masses. On this day, we not only remember the dead, but apply our efforts through

prayer, almsgiving & the Mass, to their release from Purgatory. There are two plenary indulgences attached to this day, one for visiting a church & another for visiting a cemetery where

specific prayers are recited. Catholics celebrate both of these days in the fundamental

belief that there is a prayerful spiritual communion between those in the state of grace who have died & are either

being purified in purgatory or are in heaven (the ‘church penitent & the ‘church triumphant’)

& the ‘church militant’ who are the living.

We con nually pray during the month of November for those who have died, entrus ng them to God’s love and mercy. Remembrance Envelopes can be found in our contribu on

envelope packets, the Narthex or the Parish Office. You may write the names of your deceased loved ones on the envelope and return it to the Parish Office. The envelopes will then be taken to the church and remain at the altar where our

celebrant will con nue to pray for them during Mass throughout the month of November.

Cathi Keener is truly an asset to our parish. She is one of our Religious Education teachers

throughout the school-year, the summer ses-

sion & during VBS.

Cathi’s kindness & selflessness touches the hearts of everyone she come across. She goes

beyond herself to be present for others and

gives the best of herself no matter who you are.

She sees the best in people & in every

situation. Her light is infectious & is someone you should get to know

if you don’t already.
