A Short Message

Another successful cross country season has come to a close. This year 101 runners tackled the courses, which is an increase from 95 last year, with many fronting up to run two events each week. The U10’s and short distance were lower than last year, but middle and long distance increased in numbers. Club runners for the year:- Under 10 – 8 (-8), Short Distance – 39 (-4) Middle distance – 29 (+10) Long Distance – 25 (+8) A big thankyou to everyone who helped during the season. These jobs included Handicapping, Course Marking, Timekeepers, Ticket and ribbon writers, Entries, Canteen, and childminding again. To the ladies who made soups for our annual soup and sav day at Mandurang, they warmed us up on another cold day. Trophy and raffle donors are greatly appreciated each week, and the usual raffle winners can share it around for next year. Looks like everyone will have to buy more tickets. Club President, Greg Hilson, especially to be thanked for all his hard work, course marking, and bringing along his truck & setting up for soup & sav day especially when wet. Once again a big thankyou to Annette Curtis for her enthusiastic fundraising work, and as Treasurer, has kept our books up to date with her great filing system. Everyone has put in their best effort in keeping the club run smoothly each week, along with many who work continuously during the week. Congratulations to all who received trophies, banners and awards.

We hope to see you all again running, relaxing and socialising in the pleasant and peaceful surrounds of the bush on Saturday afternoons next year. So once again, bring along relatives, friends and neighbours to have a friendly run with us.

We are the “Friendly, family, fitness and fun club” Sandy Giampietro

Assistant Secretary

DONNA TICKELL MEMORIAL 1500 METRES

Club Member Donna Tickell was killed whilst riding her bike home from school, near

Newstead.

This event was set up by the club to remember a youngster who was a willing helper and

competitor with the club during the Cross Country season.

DONNA LEE TICKELL

13-09-75 TO 10-05-90

Tragically killed at age 14 years.

A much loved, and loving family person, who enjoyed life to the fullest. An unselfish girl who wished the best for everyone else. Her zest for life is well remembered by those who had the fortune to have known Donna. Her sporting attitude, was a lesson many could well adopt. No complaints, or regrets, just get on with the job. Her “cheeky” ( tom boyish ) manner, oozing personality, was an infectious one, which left one feeling good about yourself and proud to be in her company. Not the fastest athlete around at the time, but an ambassador for her peers, a credit to herself and her family. Every so often a person of outstanding credential comes along. Donna WAS one of those people. A great mate for her brother Lucas who wears a picture of his late sister tattooed proudly on his chest. Their ‘scraps’ left many mystified. Donna was a willing, energetic worker for the Club, helping in any way she could. A terrific club mate, who was always on the sidelines, to offer encouragement and praise to fellow athletes.
