Six new students from Years 3 and 4 began their horse wisdom journey last Thursday. During their first session, they met six horses and learnt about their awareness and how it keeps them safe.

Namoi Partner Schools SportThe venture that we started on Friday was the first of its kind and a momentous undertaking by all. The 4 participating schools dispersed over 700 students to 12 venues around Gunnedah to have the opportunity to participate and develop skills in a number of different sports. Our students displayed not only our PBL value statements of respect, safety and responsibility, but also extreme patience when waiting for transport and for that, everyone involved, both students and staff, should be extremely proud. Our students’ behaviour was impeccable and when speaking with our students, everyone seemed to be happy with their sports and enthusiastic about this Friday.Swimming students please remember your money (now $2) and swimmers etc.

Family Referral ServicesA reminder that Toni Perry from FRS will be in the school next Tuesday. Toni is available to help with such things as making appointments, transport to appointments and discussing alternative options for a range of issues. Please come in and have a chat to see how she may be able to help, or alternatively contact the school and make an appointment to see her.

Special Religious EducationSRE is well underway at the school and running smoothly. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our SRE volunteers for coming to speak with our students. If your child is unhappy either not attending or attending scripture, please send a note into the school requesting a change.

Stranger DangerJust a reminder to all that there have been a number of alerts about stranger danger sent out to us by the regional safety team. These should not be taken lightly so I am asking parents to be extra vigilant and to talk with their children about stranger danger. We are trying to ensure that children are all walking home in pairs and know what to do should they be approached. This is a very sad but real issue that we are facing in town at the moment, so please look out for our students.

PLP’sAll Aboriginal families should have received a note inviting them in to the school and talk about their child/children’s goals for learning (PLP). Please return these to the school as soon as possible so times can be allocated. Any family is welcome to come in and have a PLP with their child/children’s teacher, so if you do not receive a letter and would like an appointment please contact your child/children’s teacher.

Positive Behaviour in LearningPlayground Expectations

Our PBL focus this week is playground expectations. We are learning how to be safe, respectful and responsible with equipment and using equipment in designated areas. Students are also reminded to wear hats when playing on mid field and outfield. 5 for 5 was held on Monday with students enjoying an ice cream and free play. It’s great to see so many students being safe, respectful and responsible at Gunnedah Public School.

Mr Dowe and myself were very grateful to see Angela, Jackson and Nicola Sawyer turn up for our working bee on Saturday. Angela and the children gave up their time to help us turn the soil in the beds, plant out seedlings, water and set some more garden beds in place. They had a wonderful time making mud puddles, mixing mulch into the beds and getting a lesson on how to grow seedlings from seeds with Mr Dowe. Thank you so very much for your time it was very much appreciated. We will need to hold another working bee later this term and hopefully more people will be available.
