It takes years to build institutions, it takes a few days to kill institutions.

Institutions are built around the values, the philosophies and the overall

work culture. Institutions have their essence in the basic belief system

that people develop. Over a period of time, institutions are able to build

an auro for themselves in the society, which can be summarized in terms

of their impact, their image and the expectations that the society takes

    from them.

I have seen many institutions growing and depreciating. I have seen

outstanding institution builders and outstanding institution breakers

both. I have seen great institution builders getting humiliated and

demonic institution breakers getting awards and recognition. It it is a

misnomer that people know everything or that God brings justice. We

try to satisfy ourselves with these statements.

Sycophants : the person in most demand

When the institutions are in infancy, no body cares for them. When they

grow up, there are many takers. At this stage every one wants to be at

the helm of affairs. Now every person wants to be the secretary or the

chairman of the institution. Most of the institutions are at the whims ofthe secretaries or chairmans who dont have a real creditable

background of institution building. They rely on their own past

experience, which need not be from institutions. They prefer to keep

sycophants in the top positions of the institutions. Thus, you can say that

the golden days of the institutions are over.

These four pillers make great institutions. The first piller is the most

important of all. When there is lack of trust, the institutions start falling.

Other essential features like freedom and autonomy emerge out of these

    pillers only.

There is no organization that doesnt have politics, however, institutions

display a collaborative work culture. The positive work culture

contributes to the development of institution and bring down the

negative impacts of the politics. The institutions are thus able to build

positive work culture which foster and nurture positive energy in theinstitutions.

Recognise the forces that save or kill institutions

There are two forces simultaneously working on institutions. There are

persons who want to remain stuck in the institutions. They are the blood

suckers of the institutions. They want to ensure their bread and butter at

any cost. Their priorities are only to please the persons at the top. These

persons must be thrown out of the institutions, if you really want to

preserve the institutions. There are also some persons, who have their

priorities fixed and focused on the well being of the beneficiaries. If it is

educational institution, these persons are committed to the betterment

of the students and they try to promote excellence in academics and

studies. They are not committed to the institution but to the academics

in general. They are prepared to move out of the institution if required.

These persons are the real institution builders, because they are not

taking their person interests over and above the ultimate mission of theinstitutions.

The Retired and the Ex-Army persons killing the

    institutions

There is a craze among the chairmen and secretaries of the institutions

to appoint retired and ex-army persons. Some of these persons may be

great also. But my own experiences have been pathetic. I have seen these

retired and ex-army persons to be the best persons to kill the

institutions. They are good in some respects like they are generally

very punctual, very meticulous about details and comparatively better in

keeping smart and presentable. But these persons dont have the real

things that institutions need. They fail to ignite passion for academics

and research. They keep narrating their experiences of working in army

and try to replicate the same. They fail to understand that the values

required in institutions are different from those required in army. These

persons ultimately kill the institutions, but they are sweet poisons, as

they are able to please the secretaries and top echelons (who are alsounfortunately academically blind). They might have spent their life in

doing a great job of killing enemies, but now they end up doing the worst

    thing killing the institutions.

The true Challenge bring the institution builders at the

    help of the affairs

Most of the institutions are at the mercy of non-institution builders. The

real institution builders are forced out when the institution grows and

develops. The vested interests take the command. The real challenge is

to keep the institution builders at the helm of the affairs and let the

institution builders give the required direction to the institutions.
