Businesses these days are putting into effect infra-structure management strategies for keeping their IT wing functional. This is more like a challenge for them because business acceleration is pacing up and better management of information, processing, knowledge base, data, human resources and inter-nal and external contacts is no longer optional. Busi-ness owners, CEOs, IT managers and brand execu-tives need insight on how to better manage their IT infrastructure. Most businesses prefer assigning the work to a ven-dor, which supplies infrastructure management products/services. There’s no harm in doing that; in fact, the in-house employees could stay busy and letting then handle the work could imply sheer waste of valuable work hours. But even if the work is delivered to a third party service, it’s always wise to have a comprehensive idea about it. That suffices supervision of the task (if required) and also bridges the gulf of communication between the assigner and the service provider. To begin with the description of infrastructure man-agement, its key elements are as follows; Promoting adaptability to create a more flexible

environment. Updating existing policies and practices fre-

quently. Bolstering interoperability between external

and internal links. Creating a standard and making sure that adher-

ence to that standard is maintained. However, these are generic points and their applica-tion varies from industry to industry, business to business. If for example, infrastructure manage-ment of an IT enterprise is considered, the most important areas are configuration, security, perfor-mance and interface. These areas are highly perti-nent for all services offered by an IT company. So,

for an IT organization, better infrastructure manage-ment results in production of a performance-driven, seamless-to-configure and highly secured software/online service. When it comes to non-IT organizations; a warehous-ing or logistics company for example, IT infrastruc-ture is instrumental in accomplishing following are-as; Meeting expanding business need. Ensuring an effective operational process. Better allocation of resources. Reaping the benefits of newest technologies

and delivering high performance. The problem with non-IT businesses is, people in the managerial levels such as CEOs, CFOs or CIOs have little knowledge on know how to make use of technology for maintaining a better IT infrastruc-ture. These people have expertise in areas other than IT and so, the IT related infrastructural issues, stay neglected. This is detrimental to the long term prospect and productivity of those businesses. The solution to this problem is keeping sharp for latest developments in the field of IT, digital media and technology. Cloud computing for example, is a workable way out for better IT infrastructure. The Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) brings with it virtu-al private networks and virtual server and storage area. This could help organizations to save money and time both. The BYOD (bring your own device) model is also currently in talk these days and as per estimates by analysts, it can reduce organizational spending on additional resources to a significant extent. However, IT infrastructure management has failed to gather large-scale investment for implementing these technologies. It shouldn’t be so, because IT is essential for organizational growth. Henceforth, it’s high time for businesses to prioritize this segment.
