How to Make Friends with Anyone
Making Friends Is Easy!
Making friends is easy. The reason is everybody wants
more friends. So whenever we become somebody’s
friend, we give them what they want; and at the same
time, they give us what we want!
Friendship truly is a win-win game.
In fact, there are more than 6 billion people on the
planet, and all of them want friends.
There is no shortage, only abundance; and the only
thing we need to do is know where to look and how to
find, and how to let everybody else know we are willing
to be their friend too.
In fact, if you understand the Seven Steps of
Friendship outlined in this book, you can go out on the
street right now and start making friends—and you can
have a great time doing it.

Smile!
A warm, sincere smile is the world’s universal
icebreaker. It is sunshine in the winter of loneliness. It
disarms the angry. It is the sign of friendship.
In fact, a smile says, “I am already your friend.”
Think about your ancestors living in a jungle
thousands of years ago. The environment is harsh and
often unfriendly. You have to be on the lookout for
danger at every turn. When you meet someone you
don’t know, your first thought is “Have they come to
steal my food or my horse?”
Many people feel like this today. They live in
concrete jungles filled with people they don’t know.
A smile says “I am not your enemy. I come in
friendship. I am already happy and do not need to take
anything from you. I am here to be friends with you.”
It really is as simple as that.

Practice your smile.
Walk down the street and smile at everybody you
meet.
Smile at the waiter at lunch. Smile at the woman at
the bank window. Smile at the man driving your taxi.
Smile at your spouse and your children. Smile at the
people you see jogging and the people you see tending
their gardens.
You will be well down the road to friendship.
Share Their Reality
The simple truth is we like to be friends with people that
are in some way like us. We are all looking for people
who share our experience, our hobbies, our interests,
our fears, and our dreams. If we share the reality of
other people, they will make friends with us easily and
naturally.

How to Make Friends with Anyone
This is so easy to do. There are many, many things
that we can share with other people to show them that
we are the same as they are:
1. We may have the same work
2. We may have the same hobbies
3. We may come from the same place
4. We may know some of the same people
5. We can speak the same language
6. We can use the same words
7. We can speak with the same tone they do
8. We can dress in the same way
9. We can use the same gestures
10. We can breathe at the same speed
11. We can read the same books
12. We can watch the same movies
13. We can enjoy the same food
14. We can try the same choice from the menu
15. We can use the same brand of computer, or car,
or clothing
The list is endless!

At every chance you get, share something with the
other person, some little thing that shows them you are
the same as they are.
Remember, everybody wants to be with people that
are just like them!
Be Happy to See Them
Dogs are friends with everyone, and the reason is
simple: A dog is always happy to see you!
Everyone wants to be appreciated, not just for what
they do but for who they are. In fact, we all want to be
appreciated for just showing up!
When others are sincerely and obviously happy to
see us, you can be sure we will also be happy to see
them!
Listen
We have all heard it before: God gave us one mouth and
two ears.

How to Make Friends with Anyone
Everybody wants a friend who will lend us their ear.
In fact, most people will talk your ear off if given half a
chance.
If you want people to be with you, get interested in
them. Listen to them, their stories, their achievements,
their triumphs, and their travails.
Listen twice as much as you speak, and then listen
some more.
Ask questions that show your interest and desire to
understand.
If you become a good listener, you will never want
for friends. They will flock to you to hear themselves
speak!
Use Their Name
Everybody loves to hear their own name. A person’s
name is sweet music to their ears. Hearing it tells them
that they are noticed and cared for—and everyone wants
to be noticed and cared for.

Ask the person for their name. Ask them how they
pronounce it. Where does it come from? What does it
mean?
How many bank tellers, waiters and waitresses, hotel
staff, taxi drivers, and bus drivers have you called by
their names during the past week?
If you can name them, they are your friend! It is as
simple and straightforward as that.
Remember: Anybody you can call by their name you
can count as your friend!
Ask for Their Help
People want to feel important and powerful. When we
ask for someone’s help, it tells them that they are
needed; and they will call us their friends because of it.
Do not be too shy to ask for help. Remember, when
you ask for help, you are doing the other person a favor
just as much as they are doing a favor for you.

Giving a person a chance to help you lets them
know that they are needed in this world, that they are
important to you!
Take Time
The greatest gift that you can ever give to another
person is your time. It is the essence of your life, the
most precious thing that you possess.
Never let other people feel that you are in a hurry to
get away from them.
If you must leave, express your sincere regret that
you cannot spend more time with them.
Spend time with your friends, and they will be your
friends for a long time to come!
Summary
Making friends is easy because everybody wants friends.
