    Our Hanwell humidistats are designed to electronically control humidifiers, dehumidifiers and heaters. Each humidistat has a microprocessor based system with 2 outputs and are used in conjunction with either the HPS-01 or the HPS-03 power supplies detailed herewith.

    Humidity Control

    Humidistats CH1, CH2, CH3

    Stable environmental conditions are a vital requirement for the preservation of historic buildings and museum collections.When the humidity is constantly changing, hygroscopic materials will swell and contract, causing internal stress and this continuous cycle of movement will almost certainly result in damage. This problem is exaggerated in composite objects as the different materials may expand and contract at different rates.

    Organic objects contain relatively high proportions of water, these materials will respond to humidity changes. When the air is dry, these materials will give off moisture, this could cause the object to become brittle, shrink, or crack. When the surrounding air is damp, these materials will absorb moisture from the air; this could result in swelling, warping, cockling or deformation. Relative humidity levels above 70% can cause mould and fungal growth on organic materials.

    Inorganic objects are also affected by changing humidity levels. Materials that contain salts (stone, ceramics) may suffer from efflorescence when the air is dry. The salts are carried to the surface by moisture leaving the object.

    Metal objects can corrode in a high humidity environment, and archaeological metal in particular needs to be kept at very low humidity levels.

    Leaving humidity uncontrolled could lead to irreversible damage. The ch range of conservation humidistats have been specifically designed to provide reliable humidity control in conservation environments.

    The ch range are microprocessor based systems with 2 outputs to switch a humidifier, a dehumidifier or both. Used in conjunction with either the HPS-01 or the HPS-03 power supplies the ch range will control a wide variety of humidifiers, dehumidifiers and heaters (a heater can replace the dehumidifier for conservation heating purposes).

    What can we control?Using HPS-01 with or without HPS-02 Slave unit in conjunction with a CH1, CH2 or CH3 the following can be controlled:

    Powered-on/sprung off 2 port valve for wet heating system

    240VAC wax filled valves to replace thermostatic radiator valves

    Heaters (generally oil filled for safety) Humidifiers (not all humidifiers are

    suitable) check with IMC for suitability De-humidifiers (not all de-humidifiers are

    suitable) check with IMC for suitability

    Hanwell Humidistat power supplies are designed very much with safety in mind. Our power supplies use electro-mechanical relays instead of solid state relays, (which generate more heat). Our relays are 2.5 times overrated that switch at 10 amps with the relay rated at 25 amps. As our units are designed not to generate excess heat they do not require ventilation to keep the unit cool. This enables our units to be enclosed, preventing dust and dirt to accumulate around the electronics, again eliminating the potential for a fire hazard.

    SPECIFICATIONS

    CH2As per CH1 except it has two membrane switches for comfort override when in conservation heating mode temperatures will be lower dictated by RH levels. Comfort override changes from conservation heating mode to comfort mode. This is used when room/space is being occupied to ensure that when in comfort mode CH2 works as a thermostat.

    The CH2 is programed to fall back to conservation control after a pre-determined time (user-programmable) The override is timed and will revert to conservative levels.
