Further Reading Guidance for Year 2
Now that your child is in Year 2, he or she will be growing in independence. Reading is ongoing throughout the term in all subjects covered, and reading on a 1:1 basis will be as frequent as the full curriculum allows. Guided Reading is part of the Literacy syllabus and includes talking about the book being studied, comprehension, language development and structure. ‘Silent’, independent reading develops as the children find increasing enjoyment and confidence in books. Do encourage your child to read for pleasure, to read to an adult regularly, to join a library and to generally continue interest in books. It is beneficial to broaden your child’s Literacy experience by ensuring that he/she has access to non fiction as well as fictional reading materials. Most of all, enthusiasm is catching, so your interest in books will reap its own rewards. Further information about the School’s Curriculum can be found on our website within the School Prospectus.
