1. Course Description This course is an introduction to grammar and syntax of biblical Hebrew, in which the most of the Old Testament was written. By obtaining basics of biblical language, students will be encouraging to be familiar with the ancient language of the Bible and to be prepared for the further study on the Hebrew Language. 본 히브리어 수업은 대부분의 구약 성경이 기록된 성경 히브리어의 기본적인 문법과 구문을 배우는 과정이다. 구약 히브리어의 기본을 습득함으로서 구약 성경을 히브리어로 연구하는 일에 첫 걸음을 떼는 것이고, 좀 더 성경 히브리어에 친숙해 짐으로 앞으로의 목회, 설교, 연구 사역에 귀한 초석이 되도록 한다.

2. Objectives After the class is completed, each student should be able to:

1) Read Hebrew texts chosen in the classes 수업 시간에 지정된 몇몇 히브리어 본문을 소리내어 읽을 수 있다.

2) Memorize basic Hebrew vocabularies. 가장 기초가 되는 단어들을 암기한다.

3) Translate selected texts. 몇몇 히브리어 본문을 문법에 맞춰서 해석한다. 4) Explain some grammatical and syntactical aspects of the Hebrew. 히브리어의 문법적, 구문론적 특징을 설명할 수 있다.

5) Understand how we can use devices for the study on the biblical language and learn how to use them. 히브리어 성경을 연구하는데 필요한 기본적인 지식이나 도구들을 이해하고, 사용하는 것을 배운다.

3. Course Requirements and Evaluation

a. Class Attendance i. Attendance to lectures is crucial part and most basically expected.

Students are responsible for knowing all the announcements and changes by the instructor in the class. This course is intensive so only four full days for the class time. If students miss any of them, it means that you may fail this class. 히브리어 수업의 경우 다른 어떤 수업보다도 수업 참여 자체가 매우 중요하다. 수업

시간에 되는 모든 이야기, 알림 등에 대해서 학생들은 반드시 숙지하고 지도에 따라야 할 책임이 있다. 4일간의 집중 수업이기 때문에 하루라도 빠지면 %에 상관없이 학점을 얻지 못한다.

ii. 10 % of Total Grade b. Assignments

i. The first day: There will be a test at the very first class time. Students will be asking whether or not each student memorizes Hebrew letters (Consonants and vowels). You can consult from Internet. Useful websites for the study on Hebrew alphabet. 시간 안배를 위해 학생들은 수업이 시작하는 시점에 히브리어의 자음과 모음을 미리 숙지해 와서 첫 시간에 시험을 치르게 된다. 인터넷 정보들을 참고할 것.

ii. Student has to submit Hebrew practice papers at the beginning of each class. It will show how each student studies personally for the review and preparation for the classes. No limits. 20% of Total Grade. 학생들은 매일 매일 그 전날 수업을 마친 이후 혹은 수업 도중에 연습한 연습지를 그 다음 날 아침에 교수에게 제출해야 한다. 수업 외에 습득한 히브리어를 개인적으로 얼마나 성실하게 공부했는지를 보여주는 지표가 된다.

iii. Exercise: Students should complete and submit each chapter’s exercise in Kelley’s Biblical Hebrew. However, students should finish this assignment by themselves. Handbook is only for 220% of Total Grade. 항목 ii와 함께 제출해야 하는데 특별히 전날 배운 과의 연습문제를 풀어오는 것이다. 핸드북에 있는 답안은 오직 도움을 위한 것이지 그것을 그대로 배껴와서는 안된다. 이 작업은 학생들이 평생 하나님의 말씀을 직접 연구하는 삶을 살아야 하는 입장에서 매우 중요한 출발점이 된다.

iv. Students should submit “Strong Verb Conjugation Chart” of qtl Qal stem (see the attached) 20 % of Total Grade. 학생들은 수업후 2주일 안에 교수에게 강동사 변화표 (카탈 동사)를 연습해서 제출해야 한다.

c. Quizzes i. The quiz will be two times a day. When the class begins, the first

quiz especially will cover the previous day and vocabularies. ii. Total 8 quizzes including Hebrew letters check. 50% of Total Grade

iii. 퀴즈는 하루에 두 번 총 8번에 걸쳐서 진행된다. 위에서 언급한 대로 첫 시험은 알파벳 시험이다. 퀴즈에는 배운 문법적 사항들, 각 과에서 나온 매우 중요한 단어들, 연습 문제 등이 출제 대상이다. 총 학점의 50%

d. For Extra Points i. If you need or want extra points, you can submit a reading paper of

Hebrew text on the Book of Jonah. It will be notified at the class. 10% Bonus points. 혹시 보너스 점수가 필요한 사람의 경우 수업이 마친 후에 요나서를 히브리어로 발음해서 적어서 제출하면 보너스 포인트 10점을 받을 수 있다.

5. Class Outline a. Overview: Each class will cover a couple of chapters in Kelley’s Biblical

Hebrew. Students should be well prepared for each class (Studying Hebrew is a kind of filing up upon what you have learned. So if you miss first part, you will also miss the followings). However, remember that to study Hebrew is the most certain way to access the endless treasure of the Hebrew Bible. This class will help you to understand the Old Testament more properly. 각각의 수업 시간은 켈리의 문법책에서 몇 과씩 습득하게 된다. 학생들은 수업 시간에 잘 따라가기 위해 최선을 다해 준비되어 있어야 한다. 히브리어 수업은 전날 배운 것 위에 하나씩 하나씩 쌓아가는 과정이기 때문에 처음에 빠지거나 미뤄지게 되면 계속해서 좋은 점수를 얻기 어렵게 된다. 그러나 기억해야 할 것은 히브리어를 공부하는 것은 하나님의 말씀의 끝없는 보화를 캐낼 수 있는 가장 확실한 방법이며, 이 수업이 여러분이 구약 성경을 더 잘 이해하는데 분명 도움을 줄 것이라는 사실이다.

1) Do not have private conversations. 개인적인 대화를 하지 않는다.

2) All cell phones, smartphones, and other electronic devices (e.g., iPods) must be turned

off. In emergency case, you can set on vibrate. 셀폰,스마트폰,아이팟과 같은 전기전자제품은

전원을 정지시켜놓아야 한다. 비상사태가 예상될 경우 전화기를 진동으로 해 놓아야 한다. 3)

Laptop and tablet computers are allowed for quiet note taking only. Other activities such

as checking personal e-mail or browsing the Internet are prohibited. 노트북은 강의필기를

4) Do not dominate other student's opportunities to learn by asking too many questions.

7) Participate in class discussions and show much effort towards academic success.
