II. Installing the IPA1. RemovethecapfromtheendoftheIPAmodulethatwillattachtotheReactIR

OrienttheIPAmoduleontheinstrumentSIMbyoneofthemethodsdescribedbelow,basedonthetypeofReactIRinstrument.TheSIMopeningisthesameforalltheReactIRinstruments,butitislocatedonthefrontofReactIRiC10and45minstruments,onthebackofaReactIR247,andontherightsideofaMonARC.• On ReactIR iC10, 45m, or 247—AligntheIPAguidepinwiththepinholeonthe

retainingringontheinstrumentSIM.Instrument-specificringsareshownbelow:

• On MonARC—AligntheIPApinwiththepinslotontheMonARCretainingring(shownoninstrumentandinseparateinset).Ifnecessary,removetheoldstyleretainingringandreplaceitwiththeslottedversionprovidedintheIPAkit.Theslotmustbeinthe7:00-8:00(7o’clockto8o’clock)position.

4. PlacetheIPAontheSIMflangewiththetopcollartiltedupslightly.

TheInstrumentPerformanceAssurance(IPA)moduleenablesyoutoperformavalidationandcalibrationoftheReactIRinstrumentlaserfrequencybasedonNISTstandardsforpolystyrene.AnIPAvalidationcheckrequiresnoadjustmenttosystemsettings.ThecalibrationadjustmentinvolvesrotatingtheirisontheIPAtoalignthemoduletotheapproximatecurrentpeakheightusedbythesamplingtechnology.ThissheetprovidesinstructionsonhowtoinstalltheIPAmoduleonthefactory-standardSIMopeningonReactIR45m,iC10,247,andMonARCinstruments.Instructionsapplytothemanual(14200036)andmotorized(14200038)versionsoftheIPA.Themotorizedversion,forusewiththeReactIR45minstrumentonly,enablesthesoftwaretocontrolmovementofthefilminandoutoftheopticalpath.• TousetheIPAmodule,followtheinstructionsbasedonthetypeofReactIRinstrument:• For45moriC10instruments,refertotheiCIRsoftwareonlineHelp.• ForReactIR247instrument,refertotheiCIRoriCProcesssoftwareonlineHelp.• ForMonARCinstruments,refertothe“MonARCSoftwareUserGuide.”

5. GentlystraightentheIPAandguideitontotheSIMflange.Useaslightside-to-sidemotionuntilthemodulelocksinplace.Youwillhearaclickastheguidepinseatsintothepin-holeguide.OnaMonARCinstallation,youwillfeeltheIPAlockinplacewithoutsound.

6. For the motorized model on a 45m only—PlugthemotorintothetopaccessoryreceptaclelabeledACC,asshowninthefollowingimage.

III. Preparing the IPA Module1. For the manual model only—EnsurethattheIPAleverisintheSAMPLE OUTposition,

asshownbelow.

2. Inthesoftware,gotothealignmentsection.• IniCIRsoftware(forReactIR45m,IC10,or247)—TestInstrumenttaskpane>

ContrastandAlign.• IniCProcesssoftware(forReactIR247controlledbyiCProcess)—Servicepage

forthe247instrument• AttheMonARCtouchscreensoftware—Testmenu>Aligntab.

3. Withthealignmentwindowinview,loosentheknob.Then,graduallyrotatethebluesleeveoftheIPAmoduletoattainthesamepeakheightasyourprealignedsystem.

Alignmentisnormallysettoapproximately20,000counts.

IMPORTANT!FortheMonARC,anadditionalrotationoftheentireIPAmodulewithinthepinslotontheSIMflrangemaybenecessarytoreachthepeakheightvalue.

4. CarefullytightentheknurledknobontheIPAsleeveuntilitissnugtoholdtheproperpeakheightduringvalidationandcalibration.

IV. Performing Validation and Calibration1. FollowtheinstructionsforyourReactIRinstrumenttovalidateand,optionally,

calibratethelaserfrequency.TheprocessinvolvesputtingthepolystyrenesampleINandOUToftheopticalpath.Forthemotorizedmodel,theprocessisautomaticthroughtheiCIRsoftware.Fortheothermodels,theprocessismanualbymovingtheleverwhenpromptedbythesoftware.Thesoftwareguidesyouthroughtheprocess.• For45m,iC10,and247instrumentscontrolledbyiCIRsoftware:

2. Priortorunningcalibration,ensuretheproperpeakheightisstillsetandtheknobonthebluesleeveissnug.

3. Aftercalibration,youcanrunanothervalidationtoverifyresults.

4. CarefullyremovetheIPAmodule,replacethelid,andputthemoduleinthestoragecase.

5. Reconnectyoursamplingtechnology.Noalignmentshouldbenecessary.

V. Replacing Polystyrene FilmAspartofaregularmaintenanceprocedure,thepolystyrenefilmshouldbereplacedeachyear.Thefilmisinanassemblythatcanbeeasilyremovedandreplaced.ContactMETTLERTOLEDOtoorderthePolystyreneReplacementKit(PartNumber:14470001).InstructionsforremovingandreplacingthefilmareshippedwiththekitandalsoavailableintheiCIRDocumentationPortfolioandonlineHelp.
