I freed a thousand slaves I could have freed a thousand more if only they
knew they were slaves.
When you control a man's thinking you do not have to worry about his
actions
Carter G. Woodson
The large majority of the Negroes who have put on the finishing touches
of our best colleges are all but worthless in the development of their
people.
Carter G. Woodson
If the white man wants to hold on to it, let him do so; but the Negro, so
far as he is able, should develop and carry out a program of his own.
Carter G. Woodson
If the Negro in the ghetto must eternally be fed by the hand that pusheshim into the ghetto, he will never become strong enough to get out of
the ghetto.

A reading man and woman is a ready man and woman, but a writing manand woman is exact.
Marcus Garvey
A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture islike a tree without roots.
Marcus Garvey
We must give up with the silly idea of folding our hands and waiting on God
to do everything for us.If God had intended for that, then he would not havegiven us a mind. Whatever you want in life, you must make up your mind to
do it for yourself
Marcus Garvey
If the white man has the idea of a white God, let him worship his God as he
desires. If the yellow man's God is of his race let him worship his God as he
sees fit. We, as Negroes, have found a new ideal. Whilst our God has nocolor, yet it is human to see everything through one's own spectacles, and
since the white people have seen their God through white spectacles, we
have only now started out (late though it be) to see our God through our ownspectacles. The God of Isaac and the God of Jacob let Him exist for the race
that believes in the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob. We Negroes believe
in the God of Ethiopia
Marcus Garvey
Having had the wrong kind of education, the Negro has become his own
greatest enemy.
Marcus Garvey
The ends you serve that are selfish will take you no further than yourself but
the ends you serve that are for all, in common, will take you into eternityMarcus Garvey
We must canonize our own saints, create our own martyrs, and elevate topositions of fame and honor black men and women who have made their
distinct contributions to our racial history.Sojourner Truthis worthy of theplace of sainthood alongside of Joan of Arc;Crispus AttucksandGeorge

William Gordonare entitled to the halo of martyrdom with no less glory
than that of the martyrs of any other race.Toussaint L'Ouverture's brilliancyas a soldier and statesman outshone that of a Cromwell, Napoleon and
Washington; hence, he is entitled to the highest place as a hero among men.
Africa has produced countless numbers of men and women, in war and inpeace, whose lustre and bravery outshine that of any other people. Then why
not see good and perfection in ourselves?
Marcus Garvey
Lift up yourselves, men, take yourselves out of the mire and hitch your
hopes to the very stars themselves. Let no man pull you down, let no man
destroy your ambition, because man is but your companion, your equal; manis your brother; he is not your Lord, he is not your sovereign master.
We Are Arbiters of Our Own Destiny. God and Nature first made us what
we are, and then out of our own creative genius we make ourselves what wewant to be. Follow always that great law
Our UNION MUST KNOW NO CLIME, BOUNDARY, orNATIONALITY PRACTICE ONE FAITH, that of Confidence in
themselves, with One God! One Aim! One Destiny! Let no religious
scruples, no political machination divide us.
There's no reason for the establishment to fear me. But it has everyright to fear the people collectively -- I am one with the people.Huey Newton
Black Power is giving power to people who have not had power todetermine their destiny.Huey Newton
We have two evils to fight, capitalism and racism. We must destroyboth racism and capitalism.

Any unarmed people are slaves, or are subject to slavery at anygiven moment. If the guns are taken out of the hands of the peopleand only the pigs have guns, then it's off to the concentration camps, the gas chambers, or whatever the fascists in America come up with. One of the democratic rights of the United States, the Second
Amendment to the Constitution, gives the people the right to beararms. However, there is a greater right; the right of human dignity thatgives all men the right to defend themselves.Huey Newton
I do not expect the white media to create positive black male images.Huey Newton
Before 1776 America was a British colony. The British Governmenthad certain laws and rules that the colonized Americans rejected asnot being in their best interests. In spite of the British conviction that
Americans had no right to establish their own laws to promote thegeneral welfare of the people living here in America, the colonizedimmigrant felt he had no choice but to raise the gun to defend hiswelfare. Simultaneously he made certain laws to ensure hisprotection from external and internal aggressions, from othergovernments, and his own agencies. One such form of protectionwas the Declaration of Independence, which states: '... whenever anygovernment becomes destructive to these ends, it is the right of thepeople to alter or to abolish it, and to institute a new government, laying its foundations on such principles and organizing its powers insuch forms as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety andhappiness.' Now these same colonized White people, these
bondsmen, paupers, and thieves deny the colonized Black man notonly the right to abolish this oppressive system, but to even speak ofabolishing it.
