I. Another Woman
how easily we consider others different from ourselves – often inferior
it looks as though the woman had the means & Jesus had the need (cf. 4:6)
BUT Jesus shows that he had the means & she had the need

The mature believer is never any less in need of Christ than the new convert.

Jesus is the groom with abundant provision that points to the new creation
Israel is described in the imagery of a bride

While salvation comes through the Jews, salvation was never intended solely for the
Jews.

An escalating string of revelation… v. 9 – you are a Jew
v. 19 – you are a prophet
vv. 25-26 – a Messiah is coming…I AM he
v. 42 – you are the Savior of the world
IV. Another Sign
Comparing the first two signs… the initial request is met with a rebuff
miracles are done at a distance
servants possess unique knowledge
faith only professed after the miracle
We begin reading John 4 as if it’s about others; we end reading John 4
looking at ourselves.
