Unloader (OA) Knee Brace

Unicompartmental osteoarthritis

Is consequent to the wear of the cartilaginous joint surfaces ofthe distal part of the femur and proximal part of the tibia. This wear, causedby the same biomechanics as femoro patellar syndrome, is generally morepronounced on one condyle, hence the name unicompartmental. Thedegradation of the joint surfaces can be greatly accelerated by rheumatoidarthritis.

The goal of a OA knee brace is to correct the knee angle while reducing thepressure on affected compartment. A combination of foot orthotic and OAKnee brace will optimise the results.

Tibial collateral ligament and fibular collateral ligament tears.

Tears of (MCL) and (FCL) are relatively common and causeMedio lateral instabilities related to the affected ligament. MCL injury causemedial knee distraction while a FCL lesion cause lateral knee distraction. Theorthotic treatment is similar to the treatment of unicompartmental kneearthritis and consists of stabilizing or even realigning the segments in thefrontal plane.
