After 28 years, India won ICC cricketworld cup in 2011. Now, the trophy is in our hands. Let

us have a look on this trophy.

History of world cup trophy

World cup trophy is given to ultimate winners for their ability shown. The giving of world cup

trophy had been started since 1975. Prudential was the official sponsor of the world cup till

1983. In 1983, for the first time, we had won the trophy. Later on, the sponsors were changed

from time to time. In 1987, Reliance had sponsored the world cup. In 1992, Benson and

Hedges sponsored the world cup. In 1996, Wills sponsored the world cup. As sponsors were

changed, trophy design was also changed.

But, later on InternationalCricket council had come with the idea of awarding its own trophy

in 1999. A new design was set for ICC permanent trophy. Hence, the design was carried on till

now from 1999.

- The maker of the trophy is a team from Garrad and co.

- The height of trophy is 60cms.

- The weight ofICC world cup trophy is 11 kilograms.

- It is made of silver and gold.

- ICC trophy looks like three stumps holding a sphere.

- Theme of ICC trophy: The three stumps denote batting, bowling and fielding. The sphere

is made of gold and it is a globe. The sphere representcricket ball.

- There are two similar world cup trophies. One is owned by ICC with the winners'

names written on it. Another trophy is devoid of names is presented to ultimate

winner.

Difference between ICC owned trophy and the given trophy

The basic difference between ICC owned and given trophies is the inscriptions written on it.

The ICC keeps the trophy which consists of all winners names inscribed on it. The winner

team holds the trophy which is replica and it does not bear the names of previous holders of

the trophy. The trophy will be in the custody of winning country.

Note: The trophy which is placed left side is owned by ICC. The right side picture shows the

given trophy to the winners. (They are half cut in order to pinpoint the difference).

The winners of ICC permanent trophy

- India has created a record by clinching the ICC permanent trophy from previous three time's

winner which is not given to anybody except Australia since its inception (Australia won the

trophy in 1999 and retained it till 2011).

- India has become the second country to hold the ICC permanent trophy.

Prudential world cup trophy winners

West Indies won two times consecutively i.e. in 1975 and 1979. India won third world cup in

1983 under the leadership of Kapil Dev against West Indies.

Reliance world cup trophy winner

In 1987, Australia had won this tourney. This mega tourney was hosted by India and Pakistan.

In this world cup only, the 60 overs match was reduced to 50 overs format.

Benson and Hedges world cup trophy winner

In 1992, Pakistan got this trophy by defeating England. this event was hosted be Australia and

New Zealand together.

Wills world cup trophy winner

In 1996, Sri Lanka won this event. It played its finals with Australia. This tourney was hostedby India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
