Introduction

This document provides a procedural comparison between PI/Dwights PLUS Data on CD and

the IHS Enerdeq Browser application.

While PI/Dwights PLUS Data on CD was an effective application that provided a means to

search for data and create output files, increasing customer needs and newer technologies have

led to a more efficient and robust application known as the Enerdeq Browser.

This reference will compare how available data is accessed within each application; how data is

queried; how the queried data is displayed and how output files are generated and saved.

In addition, we will compare the various functions that could be performed using the map as well

as review the various functions and features that are exclusive to each application.

Accessing Data

PI/Dwights PLUS Data on CD PI/Dwights PLUS Data on CD was available on a regional subscription basis. Generally, each of

the U.S. Data regions was provided on individual CD/DVD ROM disks.

Separate CDs/DVDs were required for Well Data and Production Data.

Data from the CD could be installed onto a local network or the data could be accessed directly

from the CD for a single user.

Licensing – The Stand Alone license was available to a single user at a time; A Network

License was available for up to 5 users at a time. A Corporate License had no limit on the

number of users.

Data Entitlements – Well Data entitlements could be licensed to the county level. Production

Data could be licensed to the sub-region level.

Data Currency - The information contained on a PI/Dwights PLUS CD was current to the last

published revision date of the CD. For a network license, CDs were sent to a subscriber on a

regular frequency. As a result, the data currency for a user depended not only on the last

published revision date of a CD but how frequently the data revisions were loaded onto the

network.

Enerdeq Browser Data Enerdeq Browser is an online application that requires no CD installations. There are no CDs to

keep track of and no guessing as to which region or data type you are working in.

Enerdeq can be accessed via the internet utilizing browsers such as Microsoft®

Internet Explorer,

Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox®.

The information in the Enerdeq database is continually updated. As a result, Enerdeq provides

access to the most complete and up-to-date E&P information that is available.

The information that you are entitled to access and use in Enerdeq is based on your subscription.

To view your entitlements, click the My Entitlements link at the top of an Enerdeq page.

A My Data Entitlements page will open and display a list of available data types.

The data that you or your company has subscribed to and is entitled to access and use is

identified with a green check mark symbol. .

Launching an Application

This section will show you how to access and launch PI/Dwights PLUS Data on CD (single user)

and then we will review how to access and launch IHS Enerdeq.

Launching PI/Dwights PLUS Data on CD

Initially, PI/Dwights PLUS Data on CD had to be installed on an individual user’s computer or a

company’s server, utilizing installation CD’s.

When working directly with the data CDs, an appropriate regional data CD, pertinent to an area

of interest, had to be loaded into the CD Rom drive for each new session.

For example, if a user’s area of interest was Oklahoma, a Well Data or a Production Data CD

from the Southern Mid-Continent Region had to be loaded into the CD tray.

An Open Region window would display.

Data Type options displayed next to each Data Region in this window.

After loading the appropriate CD, the application could be launched by

double-clicking the PI/Dwights PLUS on CD icon on the desktop screen.

Page 9: IHS > Decision Support Tool€¦ · Creating an AOI Notification..... 76 Suspending an AOI ..... 78 Removing an AOI..... 78. October, 2013 1 Introduction This document provides a

Data Search Screens

This section will look at the functionality of the PI/Dwights PLUS search screen. We will then

review how data is queried in Enerdeq.

Querying Data in PI/Dwights PLUS

The PI/Dwights PLUS main page was divided into four primary working panes:

Search Pane

Several general topic search bars displayed in the Search pane column on the left side of the

screen.

When you clicked on a search bar, a list of related search icons would display under the selected

bar.

Each of the icons represented a specific search topic.

Search pane Criteria pane

Map pane

Table pane

Clicking on an icon would display a list of search options to the right of the column.

The search options may include a text entry field; a scrollable list of options; date entry fields;

check box options and drop-down menu options.

These options were used to help narrow the parameters of the search.

The Search pane displayed an button that would let you import entities from a saved

file on your computer into your query.

The Search pane also displayed an button. This tool could be used to exclude specific

search criteria from a data query.

For example, you could query all wells in a field except those operated by a particular operator.

After selecting and defining search criteria, you would then click the button to add the

selected criteria to the log in the Criteria pane on the right side of the screen.

When search criteria was added to the log in the Criteria pane, it was automatically queried.

The number of Search Results from the query would appear in the status bar at the bottom of

the screen:

A Threshold value also displayed in the status bar.

This value limited the number of results from a query that could be displayed in the Table and

Map panes.

Page 15: IHS > Decision Support Tool€¦ · Creating an AOI Notification..... 76 Suspending an AOI ..... 78 Removing an AOI..... 78. October, 2013 1 Introduction This document provides a

October, 2013 11

If the number of results from a query was lower than the designated threshold value, those

results would then populate the Table and Map panes.

Enerdeq Data Query There are a couple of ways to generate a new data query in Enerdeq.

Under the main Well & Production tab, click the tab.

A dropdown menu will display several well and production data type options to work with.

A data type must be selected in order to proceed.

The Production Allocated data type will let you query well level allocated crude production in

Texas and well level allocated crude and gas production in Louisiana as well as unallocated lease

level production in all states.

The Production Unallocated data type will let you query unallocated lease level Production in

all states and will ignore Allocated Production in Texas and Louisiana. Reporting levels will

include well, lease and unit.

The Well Data type will let you query all well information that is reported up to the completion

phase of a well.

Note that the Activity Data type does not appear in this dropdown menu. This data type will let

you query well and map data from the most recent year of activity and the past two years for

permit data.

To generate an Activity Data query, click the Activity Monitor tab.

A New Query button will display in the column on the left side of the page.

When you’ve selected a Data Type to work with from the dropdown menu or if you’ve selected

the New Query button under the Activity Monitor tab, the appropriate new Query page will

display:

Production Data Currency The Production Allocated and Production Unallocated query pages provide a Production Data Currency link in the top right corner of each page.

This link will open a Production Data Currency chart that will display the currency of the

production data being utilized in Enerdeq, by state and in offshore locations.

In PI/Dwights PLUS, the currency of the data being used could be found in the Help files. Under

the Help command in the menu bar, you would click the Data Vintage option.

Data Attribute List Data Attributes are used to locate search criteria for a data query in Enerdeq.

Note: This feature is similar in function to the Search Bars and Search icons that were

located along the left side of the PI/Dwights PLUS Data on CD search page.

To begin a data query, expand the main branches in the Data Attribute list.

Each of the main branches will provide a list of specific attributes.

Search text can also be entered in the open field above the list to locate an attribute.

When entering search text, the attribute list will advance and highlight the attribute or attributes

that match or closely match the full or partial text entry.

Note that there was also a text entry field at the top of the Search pane in PI/Dwights PLUS that

served the same purpose.

Note that there is a Favorites attribute at the top of the attribute list.

This feature will let you create and save a list of attributes that you use most often.

When creating a data query, you can expand the Favorites branch and select attributes from

your personal favorites list, rather than having to scroll the entire list of attributes.

Page 18: IHS > Decision Support Tool€¦ · Creating an AOI Notification..... 76 Suspending an AOI ..... 78 Removing an AOI..... 78. October, 2013 1 Introduction This document provides a

Selecting Search Criteria When you select an attribute, the name of the attribute will display in the center section of the

query page along with a set of search options.

These options will let you narrow the focus of your data search.

The search options will vary by attribute.

They may include:

A list of search criteria to choose from.

A text entry field that will let a user enter a full or partial name to search against.

A date-entry field will require a user to enter dates utilizing a two-digit month, a two-

digit day and a four-digit year.

Any combination of the above.

My Query

As you locate and select specific search criteria, the criteria can then be added to the My Query

section on the right side of the query page where it will automatically be queried.

The number of results retrieved from the query will display at the top of the column.

You can continue to add search criteria or you can remove previously selected criteria.

Quick List Search Enerdeq provides an additional option to query data.

The Quick List Search feature will let a user generate a data query utilizing Well or

Production ID’s, Lease Codes or Well Serial Numbers.

ID numbers can be entered manually, imported from an outside source or copied from a saved

file and pasted into the query.

After including the IDs that you want to query, click the button.

Enerdeq Browse List Features Because Enerdeq is a web-based product, updates to the newer web browsers have enabled

Enerdeq developers to incorporate several new display enhancements to the Enerdeq Browse list.

These enhancements can be found in the Full Browse mode.

The options in the Full Browse mode are compatible with any of the following browsers:

Windows Internet Explorer® 9 (or later), Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome.

If you are running Windows Internet Explorer® 8 or earlier versions of Internet Explorer, your

query results will still open in Full Browse mode.

Unfortunately, the older browser versions will not adequately support the enhancements that are

available in Full Browse mode.

If you are having problems using the Full Browse mode, you can switch to Lite Browse Mode

by clicking the Use Lite Browse Mode link at the top of the Full Browse list.

The Lite Browse version is a straight forward browse list that will let you view the results of a

data query, select specific records of interest and generate output files.

Right-Click Functionality in an Enerdeq Browse list If you right-click on a column header in Full Browse Mode, a dropdown window will display.

Changing the Table Pane Display in PI/Dwights PLUS There were two ways to change the Table pane display in PI/Dwights PLUS.

The first option would let you change create a “default” display. The changes made using this

option would remain in effect until they were changed again.

The second option would let you temporarily change the display for a current session only.

After you’ve completed your current session, the temporary settings would revert back to the

default settings.

To change the display on a more permanent basis, you would start by expanding the File

command in the screen menu bar.

In the drop-down menu that follows, you would then select the Preferences option.

A Preferences window would display.

Under the Layout tab, you would then go to the

Table section at the bottom of the window.
