Qualification overview

The ILM Level 5 NVQ Diploma in Management has beenspecifically designed for middle managers with a widespan of control and accountability for performance, inparticular those with responsibility for determiningresource allocation and operational methods in theirdepartment or organisation.

Learners take four mandatory units coveringdeveloping and implementing operational plans,working productively, providing leadership anddirection, and planning change. They then choosefrom a diverse range of optional units to completethe qualification, tailoring their learning to meettheir individual and organisational needs.

All of ILM’s new NVQs in are part of theQualifications and Credit Framework(QCF), applicable in England, Wales andNorthern Ireland, providing successfullearners with transferable unit credit.

• Minimum 38

Minimum 168 hours, maximum 218 hours

• Induction – one hour• Tutorial support – at least two hours• Four mandatory units from Group A with a credit value of 23• Option units from Group B with a credit value of 15. No morethan 13 credits taken at Level 4

ILM NVQs are assessed using evidence from the workplace.This could include observation, professional discussion,questioning/interviews/witness testimony, physical productsof work (such as plans, reports, correspondence etc) or othermethods allowed within the QCF. Please note simulationis not allowed.

There are no formal entry requirements however learners:• will undertake an initial assessment to determine theappropriate NVQ level and optional units

• should normally be employed in a team leading role to gatherevidence from the workplace for assessment

• who are not currently in employment may be able to join thequalification if they are able to gather evidence of recentmiddle management experience in a paid or voluntarycapacity from within a period of three years of registration.
