FROM THE SAC OFFICE

SAC welcomes you to CONSAC – ImageMakers 2013

Dear CONSAC guests and exhibitors

Are you a member of the Sign Association of Canada?

SAC is the only national association for sign and imagemaking companies in Canada. With members and regional boards from coast to coast, SAC membership is your opportunity to have a seat at the table on issues that affect your business, and to gain insight, education and connections that you just can’t find anywhere else.

In addition to the member value you get from SAC, all class 1 members automatically gain membership in the International Sign Association, with access to all of its member resources.

From east to west our regional boards and volunteers are delivering education, trade shows and networking events to our members. BC is planning its March 2014 trade show and an online journeyman electrical course. Alberta completed its most successful trade show to date, and they donated the profits to charity- the bulk of which went to the Southern Alberta Flood relief fund. Saskatchewan’s AGM was a big hit and brought in new members, and Manitoba, BC and the Atlantic regions elected new boards. Ontario once again rolled out a highly successful golf tournament. Quebec recently hosted its golf tournament and AGM in Quebec City and they are planning their next trade show in May 2014.

Give the SAC office a call and ask us what is happening in your area and we will be glad to share with you the upcoming events.

We have also increased our bench strength at the national office. We hired the Zzeem team to assist us in running the association and we are reaping the benefits of their experience and organizational skills. We have also substantially upped our game in our work with government and legislative affairs. We hired Leo Hrivnak to take on this full-time role and he is already making substantial inroads in areas where we have not previously had the opportunity to deliver.

Find out more about membership by visiting our website www.sac-ace.ca or by contacting us at (877) 470-9787.

If you are already a member, thank you. Your support enables us to deliver on our value proposition to our members and it makes our industry stronger and more successful.

And now to why you are here. CONSAC is the only national trade show for our industry and this year, in addition to a top-flight line-up of exhibitors we have our best roster of seminars yet. Member pricing makes these sessions extremely affordable. Have a look at the line-up in this Show Guide.

We also have our first ever gala dinner and Sign Awards on Friday night. Enjoy a first class dinner with live entertainment and take the opportunity to network with your peers and suppliers.

Welcome to the show!

NOT OPTIONAL: GROWING A THRIVING BUSINESS IN THE NEW ECONOMY

This ain’t your parent’s economy. The post-2007 and post-Facebook realities demand that we take a new approach. A new approach on old fundamentals: time, people, and money.

This presentation covers:

• The role of people in our businesses and in our own lives. We learn about the 3 kinds of people every successful business owner and professional must have in their lives. We learn about the new ways our markets and customers are organised and the new way they behave. We learn about the one thing that is the single biggest profit driver in business, and which most businesses suck at.

• The role of time. What is the one question you must be able the answer the first time you open the door of your business; and EVERY time you open the door of your business? How do you determine your priorities and how do you get what matters done? How do you get the right mix of past, present, and future in the planning

and structuring of your business? What is the single most important thing you need to know to be successful as a business owner when trying to manage your time?

• The role of money. What is the TPM equation, and why must it balance in a growing business? Which matters more: revenues, profit, or cash flow? How do most businesses completely waste their money in their marketing campaigns? Pricing: what you don’t know CAN hurt you! Learn the roles of net value and leverage when deciding on the ROI of a strategy or tactic in growing your business.

• Learn 9 practical tips that touch on the three fundamentals and will change the way you do business Monday morning.

Featuring: Clemens Rettich, Principal, Clemens Rettich Business Consulting

1:00PM – 2:15PM

COLOUR MANAGEMENT FOR LARGE FORMAT INKJET

This seminar is perfect for designers, prepress operators and managers new to the industry.

What is color management all about? This is an introductory-level color management 101 seminar that answers the question – what is color management all about and how do I make it work?

What are RGB, CMYK, and ICC profiles? This session provides a simple, straight-forward explanation for color management with applications for inkjet proofing, soft proofing and creating press to proof matches.

The session will provide a basic explanation for common color problems due to gamut limitations and explore requirements for creating good color on the computer monitor. The seminar will describe the role of printing specifications (GRACoL/SWOP) in color workflows.

Color continues to be a challenge for many printers. In this session we explain the concepts and overall strategy for a color managed workflow using the solutions you probably already have.

Featuring: Abhay Sharma, Professor, School of Graphic Communications Management, Ryerson University

2:30PM – 3:45PM

BE A KEEPER AND NOT A GETTER

This 3 Part session covers some of the biggest concerns for a successful business: Learn the nuts and bolts of assembling a business that drives retention. Learn the foundation of the customer care experience and learn the function of pricing and how it impacts your business. This may prove to be one of the most valuable sessions you will attend this year.

Part 1: The fundamentals of building a retention-based business and why any other model is a waste of money. We learn how the 4 P’s of marketing have been transformed. Learn how the concepts of acquisition, persuasion, and commodities have been transformed. Learn why a high-turnover, ‘new-business’ driven business is up to 700 times less profitable than the alternative. We learn the nuts and bolts of assembling a business that drives down staff turn-over and drives up customer retention. Learn how Herb Kelleher changed the landscape of business in 1971 and how most businesses still aren’t smart enough to just copy what he did. Learn who Pareto was and why we should care. Understand the basics of the most important concept in marketing today: the customer experience cycle, and how to build one.

Part 2: The foundation of the Customer Experience Cycle: Customer Service. We learn why what we think doesn’t really matter, and what does. We learn the respective roles of management and employees in delivering remarkable customer service to drive a retention-focused business. This is a nuts-and-bolts review of what a great customer service design looks like and how to build your own. We also learn why a customer service disaster is not the end of the world and why when handled properly can be more effective than advertising in growing a remarkably successful business.

Part 3: To create a retention focused business you must understand the function of pricing and how it connects together the marketing side of your business and the operational side of your business. We look at concepts like premium pricing, value-based pricing, loss leaders, anchor pricing, etc. If you do not have complete control of your pricing model, you cannot build a high-retention business.

LYLE BUNN – Lyle is one of North America’s most highly regarded providers of subject matter expertise to end users, integrators, suppliers, operators and investors of Digital Place-based and Enterprise Media.

His education and advisory services have helped in the development of hundreds of networks in retail, consumer services, hospitality and corporate environments for consumer, patron, staff and student communications. He has contributed to many of the dynamic signage deployments that are familiar to Canadians.

Lyle has published over 250 articles and whitepapers, and served as principal writer and editor of industry supplements included in USA Today, The Wall Street Journal and The National Post.

Lyle was the only individual named to the Digital Signage Forum’s 2005 Digital Signage Top Ten List, among such corporations as Thomson, 3M, Clear Channel, Focus Media and others. He serves on the Digital Signage Expo Advisory Board Industry Consultant’s Council, on the Board of Advisors of Customer Engagement Technology World (CETW) and as Academy Faculty of InfoComm International. He also serves on the judging panels of several award programs. Lyle is the Principal and Strategy Architect at BUNN.

ISABELLA CERELLI – Isabella Cerelli oversees Pride Signs Permitting Department, providing both internal and external clients with accurate and timely interpretations and information to ensure the permit process proceeds without issue. This includes but is not limited to preliminary bylaw reviews, variance and permit applications and approvals, departmental staffing, as well as database and procedural development. For the past 10 years, Isabella has developed a strong knowledge of municipal bylaws nationally and has developed and sustained strong relationships with those same municipalities. Prior to joining Pride Signs, Isabella worked for one of Canada’s leading real estate developers as the Senior Leasing and Marketing Coordinator, which provided the foundation in legislation so integral to her current role. Isabella is an active member of the Ontario Sign Association – Regulatory Committee.

TONY DI FABIO – Tony has been with the Ministry of Transportation for 18 years. During this time, Tony has been able to gain a wealth of knowledge and experience in various transportation departments such as Freeway Traffic Management Office, Traffic Management Office, Investment Strategies Branch, Corporate Services Division - Executive Office, and most recently, Contract Management and Operations Branch. Currently, Tony is the Senior Policy Advisor in Head Office’s Corridor Management and Property Section where he is responsible for developing and supporting corridor control policies, providing advice and recommendations to senior management, consulting with industry stakeholders, and learning and development for internal staff. Tony’s leadership in corridor management has recently resulted in the implementation of public service commitments and performance measures for all corridor permits. More recently, Tony is the business lead responsible for the modernization of MTO’s Corridor Management Permit System. When not at work, Tony and his wife enjoy roaming the corridor-controlled Ontario highways on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

ARASH EJTEMAEE – Arash has been improving the lives of banners and the people who create them since the early 90s.

When he’s not busy imparting his knowledge of banner finishing, substrates, hardware and installation, he can be found playing in muddy puddles with his two sons - much to his wife’s dismay.

SVETLANA LEVANT – Permit World Inc. specializes in consulting and professional management of sign-related projects. Established by Svetlana Levant in late 2006 in Waterloo, Ontario, Permit World Inc. is a member of the Sign Association of Canada and the OACETT and is fully insured across Canada. Ms. Levant has sixteen years of experience as a sign permit specialist and was previously employed by one of the largest sign companies in Ontario. As President, Svetlana Levant manages a staff of three that provides clients with over 40 years of combined experience in the sign industry. Their team of professional Project Managers has established excellent working relationships with various municipal and provincial staff that enables them to facilitate the efficient processing of all sign-related documents and drawings.
