Tangier Home Visits Tangier Home Visits will provide a unique opportunity to intimately discover a community with an extremely rich past and uncertain future. you will be spending some quality time with people who have chosen to live on an isolated island at the bottom of a 64,000 square mile watershed. Seventeen million people, governmental regulations, global markets, and rising sea level directly impact the people that you will be talking with and the watermen community that they love.

All of the people you are going to visit have volunteered their time because of our interest in the heritage that means so much to them. Please be extremely respectful of the time, thought and generosity of the people who are going to help you really know what it means to be a Tangierman in 2012.

Watermen ExperienceTake advantage of this extremely rare opportunity to spend quality time with some of the greatest watermen and community leaders left on Tangier Island. These individuals are proud, hard working, real-deal Tangiermen. Be polite, respectful and shake their hands. Below are questions that will help you get to know a Tangier waterman. Please ask your own questions that arise.

Find out the name of the waterman who is volunteering to spend time with you. Also fi nd out the name of his boat and who he named it after. Put both names in the box below.

• How are different fi sheries (crabs, oysters, fi sh) doing in the Tangier Sound? • Have you noticed a change in the health of the water over time (clarity, fi sheries, etc)?
