275 Monoclonal Antibodies 1-5 December 1986 Methods of immunisation, fusion and cloning; assay systems; development of antibodies suit- able for antigens localisation in tissues; the production of ascites; purification of antibodies; labelling of antibodies; clinical and pathological applications. Course organisers: Mary A. Ritter, Heather Ladyman and Mark Larchr. Closing date: 31st August 1986. Course fee: £300 (including lunch but not accommodation). Immunocytochemistry in Cytopathology: Methods and Applications 8-12 December 1986 This one week course will consist of lectures and practicals on the preparation and immuno- staining of specimens normally examined by a routine laboratory, including serous fluids, fine needle aspirates, brushing from various sites, and cervical scrapes. Polycional and monoclonai antibodies to a variety of antigens, such as oncofetal and membrane antigens and infective agents, will be considered. Techniques will be largely for light microscopy but electron mi- croscopy and DNA hybridisation will be discussed. The value of immunocytochemistry in problematic cases will be demonstrated in a slide review session. The course would be suitable for pathologists, technicians and scientists working with whole cells or cell cultures. Course organisers: Julia M. Polak, David R. Springall (Histochemistry) and Thomas Krausz (Cytopathoiogy). Closing data: 31st August 1986. Course fee: £200 (including lunch but not accommodation). Immunolabelling for Electron Microscopy 26 January-6 February 1987 A two week course which will include lectures and practicals on the following topics: Tissue preparation, fixation, processing, choice of resins; photography, cryoultramicrotomy and freeze slamming techniques, freeze drying and substitution; pre-embedding immunocytochem- istry; immunoenzyme and colloidal gold techniques; colloidal gold preparation and adsorption with macromolecules; post-embedding immunocytochemistry, peroxidase, avidin-biotin, hap- ten-labelling techniques, multiple staining procedures, including double immunogold and pro- tein A techniques, co-existence studies, combinations of techniques; in situ hybridisation his- tochemistry techniques for E.M.; receptor visualisation; morphometry and quantification. Time will be available during the course for participants to carry out independent projects under supervision. Course organisers: Julia M. Polak and Ian M. Varndell (Histochemistry). Closing date: 30th September 1986. Course fee: 2 weeks £530 (including lunch but not accommodation).
