INTRODUCTION
RATIONALETheaimofClassexaminationistoprovideanassessmentschemefordance,whichgivesthebasisforthemeasurementoftheindividualcandidate'sprogressanddevelopment.TherearetwoclassexaminationsinTapDance.
ENTRYCONDITIONSANDGENERALINFORMATIONThePre-PrimaryandPrimaryexaminationshavealoweragelimitoffiveandnoupperagelimit.Thisistoensurethattheyarephysicallydevelopedsufficientlytosafelymeetthedemandsofthesyllabus.Examinationsaretakenintheformofaclassconductedbytheteacher,whomaynotgivepersonalcorrection,butcanofferencouragement.Malesandfemalescanbeexaminedtogether.Eachchildwillreceiveanindividualreportandresultwhichwillreflecttheirownachievementgained.Theteacherwillconducttheexaminationandintroduceeachcandidatebynametotheexaminer.Candidatesshouldbeenteredingroupsoffourideally,howevergroupsofthreeandtwoareacceptableifnecessaryasisonegroupof5ifthereisnoalternative.Itisnotanoptiontoputtwosetsoffivecandidatesinanyonesession.

TheexaminationsaredividedintoSectionsandeachSectioniscomposedofseveralcomponents,whichareseparatelyassessedandaggregatedtogivetheSectiontotal.Thetitlesofthesecomponentsandthemarksattainablearedetailedabove.Candidatesmustgainatleast25%ofthemarksattainableineachSectioninordertopasstheexaminationoverall.Incaseswhere25%ofthemarksattainabledoesnotcometoaroundfigure,e.g.12½,thepassmarkfortheSectionisloweredtothenearestroundfigure,inthisexample,12.TheSectiontotalsareaggregatedandtheoverallmarkisgivenoutof100.IfallSectionsarepassed,thentheoverallresultisindicatedasfollows:Grade Marks

INTRODUCTION
RATIONALETherearethreeawardsBronze,SilverandGolddesignedtopromoteanappreciationandenjoymentoftapdance,throughbothunderstandingandperformances.Eachawardconsistsofawarm-up,closeworktimestepsetamalgamations(teacher’s/candidate'schoiceoftwo)andadance.Allsectionsoftheexaminationaredancedasasoloandthecandidateisgiventheopportunitytoselecttheirchoiceoftempo.
Theexaminationsaredividedintotwosections:

Atalllevelsgoodpostureandcorrectalignmentofthelimbsareexpected.Thevocabularyandrhythmcomplexityincreasesateachsuccessivelevelandthereisaprogressivecombinationoftaptechniqueanddancemovement.Goodspatialawarenessisencouragedatalltimes.

GRADEDEXAMINATIONSINDANCE
INTRODUCTION
RATIONALE TapDancemakesadistinctivecontributiontotheeducationofallstudents,throughusingmovement,whichisoneofthefundamentalmodesofhumanexpression.Itoffersarangeoflearningopportunitiesandenablesparticipantstoenjoyphysicalexpressionaswellasdevelopintellectualsensibilities.AstheyworktogetherinTapDance,candidateslearnaboutco-operationanddevelopanunderstandingoftheshapingofmovementintoartisticformsofexpression.CandidatesdeveloptheskillandunderstandingofTapDance,atthesametimeasbuildingasoundtechnique,bydevelopingthephysicalabilitytocommunicatethroughmovementinanexpressiveandartisticway.Aclearlydefinedstructureallowslearningtotakeplaceinthecontextofsafedancepractice.TheGradedExaminationsbuildupprogressively,ensuringthatstepsandskillslearnedatlowerlevelsprepareformorecomplexmovementsasthecandidateprogresses.EachTapDanceGradedExaminationallowscandidatestoprogresstothenexthighergradeintheTapDancegenre.Also,arangeoftransferstootherdancegenresbecomespossibleasthecandidatedevelopsphysicallyandlearnscommonskillssuchasrunning,useofarms,posture,timingandrhythmicawareness.Inthisway,withadditionalteachinginput,thecandidateisabletodevelopabroadbaseofdancingskills.FollowingonfromtheGradedExaminations,candidatesmaywishtoprogresstotheVocationalGradedExaminationsaspreparationforemploymentasaprofessionaldanceroraspreparationfordanceteachingqualifications.TheGradedExaminationsinTapDancealsoallowforthoseparticipatingsolelyforrecreationalpurposestoproducequalityworkinasafedancecontext.AIMSTheaimofGradedExaminationsistoprovideanassessmentschemefordance.Thisgivesthebasisforthemeasurementoftheindividualcandidate'sprogressanddevelopment,whetherthecandidateispursuingdanceasaleisureactivityoraspreparationforaprofessionalcareerasadanceteacherorperformer.Therearesixpracticalexaminationgrades,numberedfrom1to6,orderedwithincreaseddifficulty(6representsthehighestlevelofattainment).

• Thosecandidateswhoarepossiblyalreadyteachingandwhodonothavethestaminaormuscularstrengththatisnormallyrequiredatthislevel,anditwouldbedeemedtobeunsafetorequirethemtoperformusingthesamedegreeofstrengthandstaminaasayoungerdancer.
• Candidateswhodonothavesufficientphysicalfacilitytoperformthemovementsatspeedtotherequiredstandard,butwhocanneverthelessdemonstratethemataslowerpace.

RESULTSANDCERTIFICATION
All ISTDexaminations are singleperformanceatonemoment in time,with adetailedmarking systemawardedaccordingtotheassessmentcriteriaandattainmentdescriptorsgivenforeachexamination.Examiners return the resultsand report sheetsas soonaspossibleafter theexamination.The report sheets foreach candidate are individually checked within the Quality Assurance department for administrative accuracy.UndernormalcircumstancesthereportsheetsforUKexaminationswillbeissuedtotheteacherwithin21workingdaysoftheexamination.Anyerrorsfoundarecorrectedbytheexaminerpriortofurtherprocessingofthewholeexaminationsession,andmaythereforeextendthesetimings,althoughthedepartmentwillmakeeveryefforttoprocesstheseasrapidlyaspossible.AllresultsareenteredbySections,andcheckedforachievingtheminimumpass levels,perSectionand intotal,andcorrectlevelsofattainmentagainstthetotalmarkachieved.
