A MESSAGE FROM THE MAAA PRESIDENT

Art in the Park 2016 was the best ever! Yes, each artist paid a little bit more this

year but that took all the pressure off for the planning. I was able to buy the bagels and

coffee and help support local business instead of asking for free hand outs. We hired

WKNE live broadcasting on 103.7 and wow did that work! More Artist sold better this

year than ever and the traffic was consistent. WKNE broadcasted both days from 10-1.

We raised $3700.00 on the raffle. that is 3 times some of our previous years numbers!

Woo Hoo! This allowed us to generously award Jeanne Thieme the $500 cash prize for

her gorgeous watercolor when her booth number was written on the lucky winners raf-

fle ticket! Congratulations Jeanne!

We finally made our Dream of a Members booth under the main tent come true! 4 art-

ists participated this year!

My sister Lori Hulslander, her friend Eleanor Harris and our member Dierdre Rinaldi

ran the main tent raffle table both days and did fabulous. No confusion or training every

2 hours. Simple..just the way it should be.

Attached is this years Final Award recipients for AIP 2016! Congratulations to every-

one. We had a completely different crew of judges this year and their opinions were

new and refreshing.

I have minimized the work and simplified the planning for this event for the new presi-

dent Patrick Wright and his new executive team.

As many of you all know the Presidency is a two year term. I am finishing off my 4th

year. As president I have eliminated a bunch of the time consuming things such as

quarterly news letters.

I have uploaded all members into the vista print mailing list so that the notification of

our 4 meetings a year can be as simple as designing the postcard online and clicking

a button to send it out.

We used to design it, print it, label each card with an address and then stamp each

card! That was crazy! lol

I redesigned AIP raffle signs and had them laminated so that they never need to be re-

ordered again, I eliminated having to go door to door from business to business beg-

ging (lol thats what it felt like) for donations..for the raffle at AIP. We raised more money

this year than ever and we didn't have one raffle prize to have to get sent out or given

to the recipient.

My best business coach ever ingrained KISS in me......Keep It Simple Sweetie ..I

hope to have done that for our Association.

Patrick needs a new VP, a secretary and we need a treasurer. This is easy stuff folks..I

will train you all and it is great for your resume if needed but more so for your personal

satisfaction knowing you are a volunteer that gives a little of your time to help Keene

and this community be a better place Paul Battey has been right along with me for 4

years in the treasurer's position..Thank you Paul!

Again, I have done my best to simplify everything so that it isn't hard to keep this asso-

ciation going. I just would like a chance to finally paint! haha.

If you would be willing to gently assist Patrick and his wife Kelly as VP, Sec or Treasur-

er please let him know sooner than later.

I will be scheduling another members meeting very soon so watch your mail! My term

ends Dec 31st.

I am very willing to explain everything to everyone and trust me I have eliminated most

time consuming activities. The Association brings so much to the community we need

to carry it on!

I do plan on continuing our Gallery at Syds. Once the gallery is all I am responsible

for, I hope to make it even more awesome than it is!

Sincerely,

Wendi Hulslander

President of the Monadnock Area Artists Association

Monadnock Art presents the Art Tour each October during the peak of the colorful foliage season in southwestern New Hampshire. The Tour is self-directed, and it's free for the interested public. Art lov-ers from all over New England, and beyond, enjoy touring the beautiful countryside, following the dis-tinctive Art Tour signs, and discovering the often tucked-away places where artists work. Studios are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

I will be a part of the tour this year for the first time on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, October 8, 9 and 10, at my barn studio at 34 Pine Street, Peterborough. I will be showing and selling my photo-graphs, greeting cards and Book Cover Art.

Getting It Right in the Digital Camera: Introduction to Digital Photography

September 22 - October 13, Keene High School

On successive Thursday evenings from 6-8pm

This fall I will again be offering my basic digital photography course for Keene Com-

munity Education at Keene High School. The program includes four, two hour clas-

ses and two photo-shoot field trips. We will cover everything from selecting a digital

camera, to image file types, archiving, exposure, composition and dealing with differ-

ent varieties of light. The field trips will be a great opportunity to review practices in

real-life situations and the resulting images will provide a wonderful source of materi-

al for gentle, loving! Critique. To allow for the needed personal attention, the class

will be small, from 10 to a maximum of 15. The times and locations for the field

trips will planned with the class participants.

Introduction to Adobe Lightroom (January 2017)

A persistent request from my students has been to learn more about how to use photo editing software to bring out the best from their images. I felt the best way to introduce these approaches was through a course on the Adobe Lightroom. I am a long term user of Photoshop, but over the last couple of years I have become increas-ingly impressed with the power of Lightroom, in terms of both its image management tools and its sophisticated image editing capabilities. Although I still go to Photoshop for final tweaking’s, I now use Lightroom for 80-90% of my global editing. Given its power and intuitive ease of use, Lightroom is likely all that is needed for the ma-jority of photography enthusiasts as they begin exploring sophisticated image editing.

I will be offering my Lightroom course again this winter with dates in January to be announced, probably on Tuesday or Wednesday evenings to accommodate those who chronically are incapable of making Thursdays (I’m talking to you Steve Hooper!). It will again be a small informal group, no more than 8, sitting comfortably around my dining room table and again, snacks will be offered.

The class will be run as a live demonstration, with students encouraged to work along on their own laptops. Hav-ing a laptop at hand will be helpful, but is not required to benefit from the classes. Adobe’s Creative Cloud Sub-scription for Photographer’s includes the most current versions of both Lightroom and Photoshop for only $10/month and is an easy way to get started.

https://www.adobe.com/creativecloud/photography.html

We will be covering many of the newest features of Lightroom, but, if you have an older version of the program, you will still benefit greatly from the class. I will be happy to help if you have any questions about getting ready for the course.

The cost will be $125 for the five sessions.
