A history of the Liberal Arts at Saint Anselm College

Keith ChevalierCollege Archivist

This talk will discuss historical developments at Saint Anselm College and highlight the expansion of the campus and curriculum since the first classes began in 1893.

The Future of the Liberal ArtsDr. Timothy Austin

Provost, Duquesne University

In his remarks, Dr. Austin will seek to refute the arguments of those who see the liberal arts succumbing to the relentless march of technology and colleges like Saint Anselm College forced to bow before a growing chorus of demands for “relevance” in education. Rather, he will argue, the liberal arts reflect an innate human drive to pursue knowledge, understanding and creativity as the foundation for progress.
