Box 9 Trafalgar, IN 46181 Emily Dougherty Whiteland, Indiana Whiteland FFA Chapter Advisor: Hannah Goeb Emily Dougherty, 18, is honored and excited to serve the nearly 12,000 Indiana FFA members as the 2016-2017 Indiana FFA Southern Region Vice-President. Emily is the daughter of Matthew and Amy Dougherty. Emily has served as the District VIII President and Treasurer and Whiteland FFA’s President from 2012-2016. Throughout Emily’s six years of membership, she has been actively involved at chapter, district, state and national levels. She has participated in multiple State FFA Leadership Conferences including: PLT, LDW and Junior High FFA Day for one year. Emily has attended SOAR and FIRE as both a counselor and a member. Emily’s position as District VIII President has allowed her to serve as a Co-Chair on the Indiana FFA Executive Committee. She has attended the Indiana FFA State Convention for four years, representing her chapter as a delegate for two years. On the national level, Emily has attended National FFA Convention for six years and participated in WLC. Emily has received numerous awards throughout her FFA career such as: Start Discovery Degree, Star Greenhand, Star Farmer, Outstanding Member, Scholarship and Whiteland FFA Pride Award. During her FFA career, Emily has participated in a multitude of Career Development Events. She has placed in the State Soils Evaluation contests, winning 5th place individual (2010) and then 10th place individual (2015). Emily has participated in the both the State Crops and Dairy Cattle evaluation contests. Also, she has placed 6th (2013) and 9th (2015) individual in the State Dairy Foods contest. Emily has also participated in a variety of district leadership contests including: Creed Speaking, Quiz Bowl, Animal Science Demonstration (3rd), Plant and Soil Science Demonstration (2nd), Essay (1st, 2nd), Food Science Demonstration (2nd, 2nd) and Leadership Ambassador (1st). Emily will be representing District VIII at the 2016 Indiana FFA State Convention in the Essay and Leadership Ambassador Contests. Emily is quite diversified in her Supervised Agricultural Experiences. Her five SAE’s consist of raising dairy beef steers, growing 153 acres of corn and soybeans, running a soil testing and analysis business and working for Kelsay Farm Tours, giving farm tours. Her Agricultural Education Proficiency was awarded 2nd at State in 2015. Emily’s Fiber and Oil Crop Proficiency placed 1st at State in both 2014 and 2015 and then was ranked silver, nationally.

Emily has been extremely involved with her school and community activities. She will be completing her 10th year in 4-H, fulfilling the office of her club’s President for the past 6 years and has held the offices as Secretary and Health and Safety Officer as well. Emily has served as a Mini 4-H Camp Counselor, a Johnson County Junior Leader, Johnson County 4-H Ambassador and the Johnson County 4-H Council youth representative. Emily has also participated in the Johnson County Soil and Water Youth Board and the Johnson County Junior Beef Association, achieving the office of Secretary in both organizations. She is an active member of her Church and Youth Group. Her academic successes have enabled Emily to become a member and committee chair in National Honors Society and National Art Honors Society. She is also involved with the WCHS Riley Dance Marathon. Emily won the 2015 Indiana Family of Farmers Essay contest. Still further, Emily was named the 2016 National Ag Day Essay Contest Winner.

Emily graduated with an Indiana CORE 40 Academic Honors Diploma. She ranked 17th of 423 in her graduating class from Whiteland Community High School, achieving a 4.22 GPA. Emily never missed a day of school from kindergarten until graduation. She was named a National AP (Advanced Placement) Scholar and a Purdue University Junior Scholar. Emily’s future plans consist of attending Purdue University to double major in Agricultural Communications and Agricultural Economics.
