Individualized Interdepartmental Major/ Minor Proposal Checklist
2018ApplicationDeadlines:March30/November1Pleasenote:Ifyouareasecondsemestersenior,youarenoteligibletosubmitaninterdepartmentalmajororminorproposal.Beforemovingforward,takeamomenttoaskyourselfthefollowingquestions.Canmyacademicgoalsbeachievedbycompletinganexistingmajor,acombinationofexistingmajorsorminors,acertificate,theKEYprogram,TakeFiveprogram,theSeniorScholarsResearchProgram?Isthemajorproposalofapre-professionalnature,e.g.Accounting,Pre-Med,PhysicalTherapy?IfyouhavesuccessfullyansweredNOtoallofthequestionsabove.UsethequestionsbelowasachronologicalchecklistthroughoutyourInterdepartmentalMajor/MinorProposalProcess.
� Determineyourareasofinterest
� Compilealistofcourseworkyouhavecompletedthusfar,alongwithgradesinsaidcoursework.(YoumayfindithelpfultoprintyouracademichistoryfromstudentACCESSforyourpersonaluse.)
� Createalistofthosecoursesyouareconsideringaspartofyourproposal.Usethe
onlinecourseschedulestofindselections.
� YoumayuseuptotwocoursesoutsideTheCollegeofArtsandSciences.NomorethantwocoursesoutsideofTheCollegemaybeincludedinastudent’scoreprogram,someexceptionsmayapply.
o ForanInterdepartmentalMinor,allcoursesmustnormallybetakenwithinTheCollege.
� Designatetwoupper-levelwritingcoursestofulfillthewritingrequirements.Youmay
alsodesignateanIndependentStudycourseinthemajoraspartialfulfillmentoftherequirement.

adviser(s)signatures)andscheduleanappointmenttomeetwithanInterdepartmentalAdvisorpriortothedraftdeadline:

� Onceyourproposalessayshavegonethroughtheeditingprocessandyouaresatisfied
withtheessaysemailyourproposaltotheInterdepartmentalAdviserdirectlyormsc@rochester.edu.

• Ifyourproposalisapproved-youwillreceiveacompletedmajordeclarationformalongwithyourapprovalletter.
• Ifyourproposalisconditionallyapproved-theCommitteewillgivereasonsandconditionstobemetinorderfortheproposaltobeapproved.Youwillbeaskedtorespondtothecommitteebythedeadlinelistedinyourletter.
• Ifyourproposalisnotapproved-theCommitteewillgivereasonsandsuggestionsformajors(and/orminors)thatmaybesuitedtoyouracademicinterests.Inthiscase,thecommittee’sdecisioncannotbeappealed.Anystudentisfreetosubmitanewproposaltobereviewedatthenextscheduledmeeting.
