ECONOMY

Baubau City is one of the main trade city aside from Kendari City in the South East

Sulawesi Province. Quantitatively potential commodities traded between islands

through Baubau ports include crops, plantations, fisheries, livestock, forest products

and industry. The plantation commodity is the highest traded commodity, and the

smallest commodity is the farm commodity.

Transportation

The main transportation in Baubau City is dominated by land transportation, air

transportation and seaports.

Baubau City is supported by adequate telecommunication facilities, both mobile phone

and phone network are available.

Energy

The main source of energy in Buton comes from the National Electric Company, Diesel

Generator and Solar Panel.

ATTRACTION

Baubau City can be regarded as a tourist city because of the many tourist attractions

that are located in this area. The tourist attractions in Baubau City can be divided into 2

main types of visits:

1. Historical attractions,which are:

a. Buton Palace Fortress and the Great Mosque of Keraton (Masigi Ogena)

b. Cuban Mosque and Flagpole (Kasuluna Tombi)

c. Traditional House (Malige), Badili (Meriam), Samparaja, Lawa and Baluara.

2. Nature based attractions, which are:

a. The beaches, namely: Kamali, Nirvana, Lakeba and Kokalukuna

b. Waterfalls, namely: Tirtarimba, Samparona and Lagaguna

c. Caves, namely: Lakasa, Ntiti, and Kaisabu

d. Bungi natural bathing house that presents storied waterfall.

e. Kalampa hills located in the village of Lipu Betoambari District which is 7 km

from the city center.

f. Palatiga Hill, where tourists see the Baubau City scenery and the sea view

around the waters south of Buton.

ACCESSIBILITIES

Baubau City is relatively easy to reach by both domestic and international tourists, the

main entry is from Sultan Hassanudin International Airport located in Makassar city,

and tourists may continue to travel by another flight to the Betoambari Airport located

in Baubau City.

TOURISM POSITION ON REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Baubau City is one of the national priority in terms of tourism development. The

Ministry of Tourism have appointed Buton as one of the National Tourism Development

Zone.

Tourism has become one of the main priority sector for development by the local

government. The government and the community have fully aware of the Baubau City

tourism resources and it’s potential for economic contribution through tourism

development. They are welcoming investors that are willing to cooperate not only on

developing more tourism attraction and facilities but also to develop in all of tourism

aspects of Baubau City.

The tourism development at the Baubau City must be implemented in compliance with
