2 MORE THAN.

Well, here we are: lucky number 11. French psychologist Jean Piaget pointed to age 11 as the crucial beginning moment of formal operational thinking. If you subscribe to this theory, it means that Indy Film Fest now has the ability to do mathematical calculations, think creatively, use abstract reasoning, and imagine the outcome of particular actions.

You’re most likely not here because you care about French psychologists, but we know you’ll enjoy the fruits of our newfound eleven-ness. This year, we’ve put together our most impressive festival yet, and we’re certain our formal operational stage is gonna knock your socks off, with 10 days of independent film, filmmaker meet-and-greets, and not-to-be-missed parties.

Last year, we followed the Filmsquatch to glory. This year, we asked ourselves a simple question: how can we give our audiences more? When you walk into our cinemas and screenings, we want to give you more than you remember, and more than you’re accustomed to. We want to give you more than you expect. The idea behind Indy Film Fest 2014 is simple: More Than.

We’ve always sought to create a shared experience around film, and this year our goal was to connect more film enthusiasts with more filmmakers. Thanks to our incredibly generous Kickstarters, we were able to accommodate more innovative filmmakers from all around the globe for this year’s festival. Watch these films, then connect with their creators in order to take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

In the last several years, we’ve expanded beyond the ten-day Festival, and we encourage you to check out our year-round screenings and events, from our Film to Fork dinner-and-a-movie series, to our Roving Cinema events in unexpected places all over the city. Since the beginning, every event we host has been 100% volunteer-powered. From the board to the screeners to the ticket-takers, everyone with a Festival lanyard is here for the love of film. We couldn’t do what we do without their support, and we are forever grateful.

Based on your feedback, our Festival has changed a bit this year. Awards Night has been moved to opening weekend, so you can make sure you catch every award-winning minute. From film summaries to ticket information, the following pages will help you plan your 10 incredible days of film.

Thanks for celebrating with us this year. We can’t wait to show you everything we’ve got—and a little bit more than.

SHORTS PROGRAMSEvery now and then, a film comes along and tells a story in one minute instead of ninety, six instead of seventy. One ticket gets you a themed series of short films. Check out the program breakdowns toward the end of these pages.

AMERICAN SPECTRUMAmerican Spectrum is home-grown and all our own. With films from across the United States, this category features directors and actors you might recognize in films you won’t soon forget.

WORLD CINEMAFilm Fest fun with an international flair. Don’t let the subtitles scare you—these films will take you on a trip around the world, no passport necessary.

HOOSIER LENSWe’re proud of Indiana and its place in the world, and these films celebrate that pride. Every film in this category has a tie to the Hoosier state. Watch and you might be surprised at all Indiana has to offer.

MATTER OF FACTThe documentaries in this category all take different approaches to telling the truth. Whether it’s the freewheeling journey of a single person or the struggles of a community, these films tell a story too good to be made up.

IT’S TIME TO MEET THE MAKERSFilm screenings are awesome, but one of the best parts about a Film Festival is rubbing elbows with the producers, directors, and actors who actually make the movies we love. This year, we focused our energy on bringing in even more of the folks behind

the scenes, and you have an opportunity to meet them, greet them, and pick their brains. Just look for events marked with this symbol throughout the program, then stick around after the screening!
