FAQ

What products will be available through Lenovo?

The Lenovo acquisition will include IBM System x, BladeCenter and Flex System blade servers and switches,

x86-based Flex integrated systems, NeXtScale and iDataPlex servers and associated software (e.g., for use,

evaluation, etc.), maintenance, warranty, and other services (the “In-scope Products/ and Services”). The

IBM / Lenovo relationship will also include a global OEM and reseller agreement whereby Lenovo can resell

IBM’s industry-leading entry/midrange Storwize® disk storage systems, tape storage systems, IBM’s General

Parallel File System (GPFS™) software and elements of IBM’s system software portfolio, including Cloud

Manager with OpenStack and Platform Computing solutions. Click here to view a list of Products by MFG part

When will the transition from IBM to Lenovo take place?

IBM and Lenovo will transition system x business and associated maintenance in October (IBM date to be

determined) Once the transition occurs all orders will need to be placed to Lenovo.

How will this affect the IBM High Volume storage products?

IBM will retain the entire storage portfolio. IBM will be moving all entry storage products into the AAS

system starting in September and continuing the transition into October. Lenovo will hold an OEM

agreement with IBM to resell entry storage products through the HVEC system and Ingram plans to inventory

these OEM’d products through Lenovo beginning in mid-October. These High Volume storage products will

also continue to be orderable as IBM products via direct ship orders through Ingram Micro. Business

partners will have the option to order Lenovo OEM inventoried products or IBM products via direct ship.

What is the last date an IBM business partner can place a System x/Flex order with Ingram Micro?

IBM business partners can place System x/Flex orders with Ingram Micro at any time. Orders can be fulfilled

via Ingram Micro’s inventory position or placing direct ship orders with IBM or Lenovo depending on the date

of the order. We expect to continue our strong System x/Flex inventory position throughout this transition.

The last day Ingram Micro can place System x inventory or direct ship orders with IBM is on Sep 24th at 12pm

EST. IBM will make their best effort to ship all orders through Sep 30. Any orders not shipped by this date by

IBM will be placed as new orders to Lenovo for Lenovo to fulfill. Ingram Micro will manage that order

resubmission.

What is the last date an IBM business partner can place an IBM High Volume Storage order with Ingram

Micro?

IBM business partners can place High Volume Storage orders with Ingram Micro at any time. Orders can be

fulfilled via Ingram Micro’s inventory position or placing direct ship orders with IBM or Lenovo depending on

the date of the order.

IBM will not allow High Volume Storage orders beginning on Sept 24th at 12pm EST. IBM will be shutting

down the HVEC ordering system starting on Sept 24th, and will not allow orders until October. All IBM special

pricing programs will expire on Oct 1, 2014. This will include all grid levels, special bid, speed to price, and

any special promotions IBM is offering (ie. IBM free advance function with rebate). All orders that

encompass special pricing will need to be placed by Sept 24th at 12pm EST. This will not affect orders placed

through the IBM AAS system.

What is the last date an IBM business partner can place an IBM System x/Flex or High Volume Storage

maintenance order with Ingram Micro?

IBM business partners can place System x, Flex and High Volume Storage warranty orders with Ingram Micro

at any time. Orders can be fulfilled via by placing direct ship orders with IBM or Lenovo depending on the

date of the order.

The last day Ingram Micro can place System x, Flex and High Volume Storage warranty orders with IBM is on

Sep 24th at 12pm EST. IBM will make their best effort to invoice all orders through Sep 30. Any orders not

invoiced by this date by IBM will be placed as new orders to Lenovo for Lenovo to fulfill. Ingram Micro will

manage that order resubmission.

How will Ingram Micro be supporting my business after the transition to Lenovo?

Ingram Micro is committed to a seamless transition for our partners. The resources that support the IBM and

Lenovo x86 server businesses today will continue to support the Lenovo x86 server business, including the

Lenovo high volume storage and maintenance business through this transition. Contact detail provided

below.

How will this affect Ingram Micro’s inventory?

Ingram Micro is committed to the same standards of System x/Flex inventory throughout the transition

to Lenovo. However, due to the nature of the transition, Ingram Micro will experience 1 week which we

are unable to order with the vendor. We are taking forecasting requests from our partners to ensure

ample inventory is on hand for upcoming projects so we encourage partners to talk through upcoming

projects with the appropriate Ingram Micro team member (see contact info below). On day 1 of the

transition to Lenovo, Ingram Micro will begin placing inventory orders with Lenovo to continue to

support market demand.

How will programs such as deal registration, and new customer bonus be affected?

IBM will transfer all approvals to Lenovo on day 1 for product in scope. This includes special bids, deal

registrations, and bonus bid codes. You will not have to re-apply for these programs. For more detail on

how the Deal registration program will work please refer to the Business Partner Readiness Letter NA

Will Ingram Micro report reseller sales of Lenovo System x and high volume storage products to

Lenovo once the sale is complete?

Yes. We will continue electronically reporting reseller sales of these products but to Lenovo rather than

IBM.
