Innovation & Technology Produced by: Corporate Communications EMP – 4 project innovates with mechanized cylindrical mast foundations Railway SBG’s EMP-4 project team has successfully initiated casting of Cylindrical Foundations at Sakun-Kishangarh section of Package-B on 15-Feb-17. Conventionally, Indian Railway OHE Mast Foundations are cast-in-situ manually which is labor intensive as well as requiring large quantities of concrete. The concept of mechanized cylindrical foundation was introduced to increase productivity (10-12 foundations/day/ equipment which is upto 4 times faster than manual methods) and to reduce the quantity of concrete required. EMP-4 team designed and developed a Mast Guided Auger attachment mounted on a high capacity tractor enabling expeditious execution of dimensionally accurate cylindrical foundations. The design, mock-up testing and approval of cylindrical foundations involved simulations of different loads to meet the stringent design requirements of high-rise OHE, a large mast implantation and a very narrow formation bed leaving less space for foundations on the formation. This major innovation will help the team expedite the project’s requirement of about 42000 foundations.

EMP – 4 project innovates with

mechanized cylindrical mast

foundations

Railway SBG’s EMP-4 project team

has successfully initiated casting of Cylindrical

Foundations at Sakun-Kishangarh section of

Package-B on 15-Feb-17.

Conventionally, Indian Railway OHE Mast

Foundations are cast-in-situ manually which is

labor intensive as well as requiring large

quantities of concrete. The concept of

mechanized cylindrical foundation was

introduced to increase productivity (10-12

foundations/day/ equipment which is upto 4

times faster than manual methods) and to reduce

the quantity of concrete required.

EMP-4 team designed and developed a Mast

Guided Auger attachment mounted on a high

capacity tractor enabling expeditious execution of

dimensionally accurate cylindrical foundations.

The design, mock-up testing and approval of

cylindrical foundations involved simulations of

different loads to meet the stringent design

requirements of high-rise OHE, a large mast

implantation and a very narrow formation bed

leaving less space for foundations on the

formation. This major innovation will help the

team expedite the project’s requirement of about

42000 foundations.
