In today's highly competitive and global marketplace the pressure on organisations to find new ways to create and

deliver value to customers is increasing. In the last two decades, Port & Shipping management has moved to the

centre stage to become a key determinant of business competitiveness.

Shipping is a term widely used in business for a range of activities associated with the efficient and effective flow

and storage of goods, services and related information from the point of origin to the point of consumption in

response to consumer requirements.

Shipping refers to physical process of transporting goods and cargo. In broader sense shipping can be associated

with Logistics which refers to flow of goods, information and other resources, including energy and people,

between the point of origin and the point of consumption. Thus shipping and logistics combine include all aspects

of transportation, storage and packaging of goods and commodities. Despite the many variables in shipped

products and locations, there are only three basic types of shipments: land, air, and sea. Quantum growth in inter-

regional and intra-regional trade has made shipping and logistics industries a favoured place for the new

generation. With increasing complexity qualified professionals are required to manage shipping and port

industries across the globe.

Logistics is a part of Port & shipping Management, so logistics is now firmly established as a key issue on most

corporate agendas in today's global market place. Logistics is increasingly developing into a factor that shapes a

company's success and has become the battleground of this decade and the key competitive weapon for the

millennium. Logistics is a crucial part of any business because it ensures that products and services are delivered

on time and at the right place. Any delay in meeting deadlines means a loss of revenue.

The course is designed for logistics professionals in the Distribution, Manufacturing, Warehousing, Transport and

Freight Forwarding who are employed in any sector of the shipping Agency or in any activity that operates in

conjunction with the Shipping. The course in Port & Shipping management will up-skill participants and provide

CLASS SCHEDULE

Through Regular i.e. Student - Faculty Interaction classes to be conducted in 4 Sundays of a Month and the

course will be covered in 32 Sundays (each Sunday 3 classes) comprising of 96 classes.

Topics for self- study & assignments for succeeding classes would be informed to the participants well in

advance

Every Sunday there will be 3 classes and each class will be of 1 hr & 30 mnts duration with 15 mnts breaks
