Lowland rice varieties IR-64, Mendri, Manipuri are at panicle initiation stage. Bhalum (upland) rice is at panicle initiation stage. Water level may be maintained at 2-5cm above the field. In uplands, bund may be repaired to conserve water. Weeding and plant protection measure should be undertaken.

Cole crop transplanting Time for nursery raising under rain shelter house/ thatch to get early crop. Soil and seed treatment is necessary before nursery preparation. Soil may be treated with Captan 50WP or formaldehyde. The suitable varieties for cabbage are H-139 and Pride of India and cauliflower varieties are Pusa Meghna, Pusa sharad and Meghalaya local. The suitable Broccoli varieties are Puspa, Aiswarya and Fiesta.

Rabi Maize Sowing Sowing of rabi maize may be initiated now in low and medium altitude region to use the residual moisture.

Kharif rice Panicle initiation to grain formation

Ranjit, Mendri, Manipuri, RCPL-1-410, RCPL1-411, RCPL-1-129, Bhalum-1, Bhalum-2, Bhalum-3 and Shah-sarang rice are at panicle initiation tyo grain formation stage. Water level may be maintained at 2-5cm in the field by repairing bunds. Due to less rainfall, there is shortage of water in the field. Nearly 1000mm rainfall has occurred during January to July. Normally it should be around 1500-1600mm during Jan-July. As there is shortage of water, water harvesting may be done by forming bunds in the fields whenever rainfall occurs.
