What is the Intel® Teach Program?Intel® Education believes students everywhere deserve to have the

tools needed to become the next generation of innovators. Each year Intel invests to help teachers teach, students learn and universities around the world innovate-particularly in the areas of math, science and technology.

Part of Intel Education, the Intel® Teach Program has been helping K–12 teachers to be more effective educators by training them on how to integrate technology into their lessons, promoting problem solving, critical thinking and collaboration skills among their students.

What is the Intel® Teach ProgramGetting Started Course?

A professional development offering for classroom/subject-matter teachers with little or no experience with computers, in need of basic skills and introduction to project approaches,

Intel® Teach Getting Started:•Develops 21st century teaching and learning skills and approaches, such as

student-centered instruction, critical thinking, and collaboration

•Involves the planning, doing, reviewing, and sharing of meaningful and relevant teacher activities

•Requires the development of individual action plans detailing how teachers will apply their new skills and approaches to improve their productivity and enhance their professional growth over time

Intended Audience

Classroom teachers who:

Have little or no computer experience

• Need or desire to learn computer basics and 21st century teaching and learning approaches

• May have limited access to computers in their classrooms and homes

Note that preparing teachers to teach computer skills to students or to develop technology-infused lessons for their students to do is not a primary goal of this course.

Within each technology area:

• Teachers begin with a technology introduction, exploration, and discussion

• Teacher complete a required activity

• Teachers select and complete at least one relevant elective activity

• Teachers conclude by sharing their work with colleagues and reflecting/discussing practical issues and applications

Activity DescriptionAssessment Handout (required)

A handout involving numbered and bulleted lists, line spacing, text formatting, and tabs.

Weekly Lesson Planner

A table showing a teacher’s lessons and activities for a week. Page layout/formatting and some form toolbar functions would be featured.

Newsletter A single-page document detailing student activities and learning for one week (or month). Involves page layout, text columns, paragraph formatting, text styles, and working with pictures and clip art.

Diagram An image is inserted and the parts of that image are labeled with text boxes and arrows. Other text and paragraph formatting skills could be addressed through descriptive text.

Certificate A graphics-oriented activity to celebrate student achievement and learning.

Activity DescriptionCurriculum Preview (required)

A presentation (perhaps used for an open house or back-to-school night) that explains what students will be learning in the year or semester ahead.

Student of the Week

A presentation that celebrates the accomplishments of a student (or group of students).

Instructional Lesson

A branching presentation that teachers develop to teach content in a way that is engaging to students.

Classroom Rules and Expectations

A branching presentation that informs students of classroom rules and teacher expectations relative to completion of assignments, participation, and so forth.

Yearbook A presentation that could be used to review what students have learned during the year and to celebrate their achievements.

Course Content: Spreadsheets

Activity DescriptionGrade Book (required)

A worksheet that teachers can format and use to enter grade information and perform calculations. They also generate appropriate column and line charts based on data.

Classroom Inventory

A worksheet containing an inventory of classroom items, such as desks, computer equipment, books, and supplies, the quantity of each item, and the cost.

Seating Chart

A worksheet that teachers use to create a seating chart for a substitute teacher. The comment feature is used to create rollovers that contain helpful details about certain students.

Pictograph A worksheet that teachers complete using statistical data related to the content they teach. A pictograph is created using pictures and symbols to make the data easier to analyze.

Roll Book A linked worksheet that teachers add to their existing Grade Book. This activity shows how information can be linked between different worksheets in the same spreadsheet.

Course Structure and Implementation

Senior Trainer/Master Teacher Training

Consists of 12 modules– Minimum of 28 instructional hours, delivered within a single week (three 8-hour days and one 4-

hour day) – Enhanced activities can extend course to 32 in-class instructional hours (four consecutive 8-hour

days)

Participant Teacher Training

Consists of 12 modules, should be distributed over multiple weeks (requires homework)– Minimum of 24 instructional hours – Enhanced activities can extend course to 32 in-class instructional hours
