EXHIBITIONSSiri Aurdal: Wavelengths – recomposed, The Vigeland Park, Until 30th NovemberOslo Pilot and Kunstnernes Hus have collaborated on a project about the work of Siri Aurdal (b. 1937), a Norwegian artist who was active mainly in the 1960s and 70s. The project consists of a series of both indoor and outdoor presentations of Aurdal’s sculptures and models, as well as a book produced by artist Eline Mugaas (b. 1969). Aurdal is an innovative figure in contemporary Norwegian art history because of her experimental use of materials and monumental installations in which the audience played an active and cooperative role. The outdoor installation of the sculpture Bølgelengder – rekomponert ('wavelengths–recomposed') is hosted by the Vigeland Park, has been organised by Oslo Pilot and Kunstnernes Hus in cooperation with the Vigeland Museum. The sculpture has been produced by Oslo Pilot and Kunstnernes Hus and will remain on view to the public until November 30th. The sculpture is situated between Bymuseet and the pavilion in the Vigeland Park.

CONCERTSWar Requiem, The Norwegian Opera & Ballet, 13th, 16th & 18th SeptemberUnder the direction of Calixto Bieito, Benjamin Britten’s masterpiece War Requiem is a clear protest against terror and the destruction of war. A large chorus, children’s chorus, chamber orchestra, symphony orchestra, organ and three outstanding soloists perform this powerful musical call for peace, which is just as necessary today as it was when the work was first performed in the aftermath of the Second World War.The traditional parts of the Catholic requiem are sung by the soprano soloist and chorus, accompanied by a large orchestra and organ. Anti-war poems by Wilfred Owen (1893–1918) provide contrast and commentary. These are sung by the tenor and baritone soloists, who personify the soldiers subjected to the hopelessness of war. War Requiem was written to mark the reopening of Coventry Cathedral in 1962. In the Opera's production, the Main House is turned into a cathedral in the process of being reconstructed. The performance is presented in collaboration with the 2016 Ulimta Oslo Contemporary Music Festival. Japanomania in the North – visual arts, Nasjonalgalleriet, until 16th October at 11.00-17.00Japanese inspiration, or Japonism as it is called in the arts, began to evolve when Japan opened its borders in 1854. The exotic art of the land far east garnered immediate admiration and had a major impact on European impressionists and design reformers. Simplification, asymmetry, freer forms and stylised nature motifs were stylistic features that revolutionised the arts and crafts. Japanomania is the first exhibition to document the wide-ranging influence of Japanese art on Nordic art and design around 1900. Works by Gerhard Munthe, Thorvald Bindesböll, Bruno Liljefors and Helene Schjerfbeck are presented, along with works by pioneers such as Monet, Gauguin and van Gogh. Please note: The exhibition consists of two complementary parts, showing concurrently at the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design and the National Gallery. The opening ours of the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design are different from those of the National Gallery. You'll skip the queue and are guaranteed entrance by bying tickets in advance. For fast entrance to the exhibition, avoid bringing large bags.Address: Universitetsgata 13

Photo: Thomas KvitvikUnlock and explore! The bicentenary of Norway's National Bank, Arkitekturmuseet, Until DecemberExhibition marking the bicentenary of Norges Bank, the central bank of Norway. The exhibition is unusual in two ways. First, it has been created with a highly select audience in mind: children between the ages eight and twelve. Everyone else enters the exhibition at their own risk. Second, although the bank is the main topic of the exhibition, the prelude is the true story of an audacious crime: on New Year's Eve 1935, the notorious master thief Ole Høiland broke into Norges Bank and escaped with a haul of NOK 15–20 million in today's value. Glittering objects gathered from the Bank's archives invite visitors to enter. As the title of the exhibition suggests, visitors have to unlock doors in order to reveal the objects concealed behind them. There is also a workshop where groups are invited to make their own banknotes. Tickets are bought on site.Address: Bankplassen 3

Vildanden + En Folkefiende – Enemy of the Duck, National Theatre, 12-15th SeptemberIcelandic director Thorleifur Örn Arnarsson has dreamed of bringing together Henrik Ibsen's An Enemy of the People and The Wild Duck for a long time. With a critical view, he debates power-hungry white men from the middle class, who have neither the capability to see themselves from another perspective, nor the capability to compromise. The result is an expressive and psychologically laden production, where Gregers Werle and Tomas Stockmann are portrayed as the same man. Wholesale dealer Werle and Peter Stockmann are also melted into one character, Gregers’s brother Peter Werle. Peter can lose everything if both secrets are revealed, while Gregers is willing to sacrifice everything in the name of the truth. The result is an Ibsenian Cain and Abel story. This time events unroll 130 years later, in present day Norway. The topic is no longer toxic waters, but oil rigs belonging to Northern Oil & Gas, where Peter is the CEO.Vildanden + En folkefiende – Enemy of the Duck has an original score, and is a contrasting, intense and aesthetic Ibsen montage posing the question: Is the truth always the right path?
