With a hugely diverse membership with students from all over the world who consider themselves conscious global citizens concerned with life beyond UK borders, international policy is an area which affects us. In an age where overseas wars are increasingly commonplace and with movement between nations being tightened rather than loosened we have become increasingly aware of the direct impact on students at UEA.

This could happen through a Nuclear Weapons Convention, with small, mutually verifiable steps from reducing alert levels to dismantling hardware www.ippnw.org/ican/nuclear-weapons-convention.html

I believe it is absolutely vital that we maintain a continuous independent nuclear deterrent as the ultimate guarantee of our national security.

I will, if elected, be voting against trident renewal in 2016.

As part of global disarmament we would lead the way by reducing our stockpile.

Nuclear weapons pose a threat to all of us. We call on the government to decommission all of Britain’s nuclear weapons.

Greens support freedom of movement, but oppose SIS, the Schengen Information Service, which threatens civil liberties.

I support free movement but don’t believe our border controls are excessive and support our opt out of the Schengen Agreement.

UNDECIDED

Important that we maintain border controls but must be vocal in EU to set a coherent approach to immigration.

UKIP chose not to provide an answer for this question.

Yes to EU, yes to reform for the common good, yes to referendum on a fairer EU that works for the 99%.

I want the UK to stay in the EU, but as it was right to put the question of independence to the Scots, it is right the British people have a say in a referendum.

Democratic reform is essential.

Passionately believe we should remain part of the EU. It is vital for our economy and is instrumental in tackling those issues that don’t recognise borders like climate change and crime.

Freedom of movement for citizens across Europe without excessive border control is of huge importance. The UK should no longer opt out of the Schengen Agreement.

Being part of the European Union provides a significant advantages in terms of labour rights, environmental protection and opportunities for work and this is therefore key to the future of the country and students believe we should continue to be part of the EU.

We have seen how military intervention has escalated violence in the region. Now we need to protect those affected without adding to the cycle of violence. A task made much more difficult by previous government’s illegal wars.

I agree with the cross-party vote in the House of Commons that taking part in air strikes against ISIL in Iraq is a step that the UK is right to take.

Solving the problems of the middle east will take more than air strikes and further wars.

Need to be able to respond to ever changing threats, but decisions should be taken only subsequent to Parliamentary debate.

We need to stop fuelling the conflicts that force people into exile. http://greenparty.org.uk/news/2014/01/29/the-green-party-welcomes-government-u-turn-on-syrian-refuge/

Since the crisis began we have granted asylum to around 3,400 Syrians and their dependents and rightly continue to lead the humanitarian effort in the region.

The UK including Norwich and Norfolk should play its part in helping refugees from Syria and elsewhere.

We are, quite rightly, already offering asylum to those affected by the conflict who are most vulnerable.

For too long the UK has become involved in overseas wars which place excessive burden on the exchequer, cause unnecessary suffering and death and make the world a more dangerous place. We believe the UK should not undertake direct military action against “ISIS”.

The UK has a long history of offering sanctuary to refugees. The conflict is Syria has displaced millions of people with hundreds of thousands identified by the UN as refugees. The UK should offer sanctuary to Syrian refugees.

Gov should end £1b subsidy to arms exports, see Caroline Lucas’ EDM http://www.parliament.uk/edm/2010-12/2166. Congratulations to UEASU for disinvesting.

I support the UK’s arms exports and am proud that we operate one of the most rigorous arms export control regimes in the world.

A future Labour govt should ensure a transitional plan to convert our weapons industry into more productive areas without causing massive job losses.

Lib Dems are committed to, where necessary, strengthening defence sale controls.

Summary execution of suspects and others is illegal already. We need to enforce international humanitarian law, massively building on International Court, and restoring its credibility by prosecuting war crimes, not just those committed by poor countries.

The UK’s use of strike capability drones is entirely in accordance with International Humanitarian Law and is governed by the same strict rules of engagement as those governing manned aircraft.

The UK should seek international agreement on limiting military drone usage.

Drones have an important role to play, particularly for surveillance and intelligence gathering where they can save lives. We have ensured that they are kept under constant review.

In recent times drones have been increasingly used by the UK- typically against people in other countries. The UK should outlaw the use of drones aircraft.

Currently the UK is one of the largest exporters of arms in the world. We believe that the UK should diversify its income away from unethical practises and move away from selling weapons, with a view to ending its part in the arms trade.

This would help break the cycle of violence and is essential to any lasting peace.

Recognise the climate debt of early industrialisers.

I support the aim of Palestinian statehood, but we must persuade the Palestinians and those who support Hamas that terrorist and rocket attacks on Israel will not bring that goal closer.

The UK is one of five countries to spend 0.7 per cent of GNI on aid and the first G8 country to meet this longstanding commitment, a level that I fully support.

Parliament, backed by hundreds of Labour MPs, helped pass the motion doing that last year. Now the UK Government should do so too.

We should also look at unfair trade practices and clamp down on UK companies that evade paying tax in these countries.

UK should encourage the EU to recognise the State of Palestine within pre-1967 borders.

I voted in favour of the target being enshrined in law so we continue to meet the target. We must review spending to ensure effectiveness, and encourage other nations follow our lead.

We believe in the right of Palestinians to have their state recognised. As a result, we call on the UK to recognise the state of Palestine.

As one of the leading world economies the UK has a responsibility to support developing nations. We call on the UK to increase the amount of financial aid above the current target of 0.7% of GDP, and ensure that this is well targeted and effected.
