1.0 ORIGIN OF THE REPORT

This report is based on an internship program. Department of Business Administration, IIUC (DC), arranges internship program in attachment with its students after the completion of theoretical courses (i.e., after final semester) of program of Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA). Each intern must carry out a specific project, which is assigned by the concerned organization and approved by the Internship and placement committee of School of business, IIUC. (DC) consequently a report based on the project is to be submitted to the committee.

In this particular report, the author is an intern of the previously mentioned program and the concerned organization is Dhaka bank limited, one of the leading banks in Bangladesh.

Hence I was getting job in Maestro group of companies (smile.com.bd) September 02, 2008 to till now.

In way of delegation, responsibility of carrying out the study has conferred upon the concerned intern.

1.2 OBJECTIVE OF THE REPORT

The main objective of education is to acquire knowledge. To acquired knowledge ultimately we

must do some practical application in addition to theoretical knowledge. Through this report, I tried my level best to present my practical knowledge as well as to find out-

To fulfill the requirement of the internship program under BBA program

To analyze the present situation of ISP in Bangladesh.

To identify the prospects & problems in ISPs

Mainly I have collected data from two sources.

These two sources are as following.

o Primary source o Secondary

The primary sources of my information are as below: Direct observation Questioning the concerned persons.

The secondary sources of my information are as below-

Desk report of the related department

1.6 LIMITATION OF THE REPORT: The report does not consist all aspect of Dhaka bank limited rather concentration is given only the investment operation of Dhaka bank limited.

 Lack of time:

The time period of this study is very short. I had only 8 weeks in my hand to complete this report, which was not enough. So I could not go in depth of the study. Sometimes

the officials were busy and were busy and were not able to give me much time.

 Lack Of Experience:

As I am newcomer, there is a lack of previous experience in this concern. And many practical matters have been written from my own observation that may vary from person to person.

 Lack of Fund:

I have also some limitations of fund. That’s why I can’t make it more attractive &

glorious

FINDINGS AND ANALYSIS

Page 11: Internship Report

11

History of ISP in Bangladesh: In the early nineties, Bangladesh had access to email via dialup to Bulletin Board Systems (BBS)

of a few local providers. The combined Internet users of all the email-only service providers were not more then 500. Users were charged by the kilobyte, and mail was transferred from the BBS service providers to the rest of the world by International dialup using UUCP. In June 1996, the Government allowed VSAT's to be operated in the Private Sector, albeit to be provided solely by the Government owned Telephone Operator, BTTB. Only a handful of ISPs were connected within the first year. However, more liberal Government policies followed in the

subsequent years which led to a rapid expansion of this industry, eventually resulting in over 180 registered ISP's by 2005. ISPs are currently regulated by the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission through the Bangladesh Telecommunications Act.

I have found the following problems in ISPs:

1. Most of the ISPs in Bangladesh charge a lot of money for each and every connection.

2. Some ISPs getting involved with VOIP Business which is banned in Bangladesh.

3. Most of the ISPs provide low internet speed. 4. In Bangladesh most of the ISPs are using the dial up connection,

which is back dated. 5. ISP doesn’t have any concrete business and marketing policy to do

business in the proper manner. 6. Most of the ISPs do not maintain the code of conduct & rules of the

government. 7. Some ISPs do not maintain the close relationship with the clients. 8. Most ISPs don’t have the proper support & strong network.

PART THREE RECOMMENDATION & CONCLUSION

Page 35: Internship Report

35

RECOMMENDATION

I have some recommendation:

1. Govt. should maintain a low cost for using internet so that the rural and mass people can

use internet.

2. Govt. should control or take necessary steps against the illegal VOIP business strictly.

3. The ISP Providers should provide high speed internet service and maintain a very good

relationship with the clients

4. With the modern world we should use the submarine bandwidth and WIMAX technology

for internet service.

5. Government should develop the proper infrastructure to facilitate the internet service all

over the country

6. Ministry of Science and Technology must have the up-to-date policy for the regulation of

ISPs

7. Allocation of fund or arrangement of credit facility from both public and private financial

institution, to set up more ISPs in Bangladesh, must be ensured from the part of the

government.

CONCLUSION

After analyzing the report we may come to a conclusion that, In Bangladesh most of the ISPs facing some problem, which is a great obstacle for ISP service, like- proper rules & regulations, lack of fund, proper guideline. So government should look after all those obstacles & take necessary actions in favor of ISPs. We may also comes to a conclusion that, All ISPs should abide by the rules, which is made by Govt. All ISPs should take a far distance from illegal VOIP Business. And also we may say that, ISPs should make a close relationship with the clients and always looks after their problems. Government can also take necessary steps for proper growing new ISPs.
