INSIDE INTOUCH

From the Editors... Welcome to our August issue! One of the most surprising discoveries we have made since launching

intouch magazine in June is that there are so many people in our locality doing such great things that no-one seems to be aware of! This month we talk to one such person – James Reid of Docs

Mega Save Chemist (Market Town). In addition to James’ professional life as a Pharmacist, he is the founder of Run Reid – an organisation set up by James to raise much-needed funds for a variety of charities. We also talk to Novocastrian Plastic Surgeon, Dr Gary Avery about the “non-Hollywood” side of plastic surgery and the amazing work he and colleague Dr Moncrieff carry out within the

public system to assist those who have been involved in accidents and other emergencies.

Of course, August is jam-packed with a large variety of shows and events. In this issue, we talk to Aussie music icons Christine Anu and Troy Cassar-Daley about their extensive

careers in the music industry. The Australian Ballet comes to town to delight audiences with not just one but three ballets and a Dancers Class On-Stage, which will provide enthusiasts with

a chance to gain insight into the working life of a touring dancer.

This month also sees the opening of dual exhibitions “A Gift to the City – the Roland Pope Collection.” Roland Pope was a Sydney based ophthalmologist, one-time cricketer for Australia

and a notable collector of Australian art and literature. His extensive donation of art and literature were the catalysts for the building of our cultural institutions and decades

of cultural benefaction to Newcastle.

With so much cold weather right as we go to print its no surprise that we’ve put some thought into rugging up with this season's essential jackets and coats. From faux fur to the biker, there’s

bound to be a style to suit every taste and budget within our fashion pages. And if you can’t warm up with a Winter coat then maybe consider jetting off to Hawaii – our travel section provides

you with 6 good reasons to do just that (as if we needed 6 reasons!).

If you’re an avid viewer of home renovation programs, you will have noted the resurgence of wallpaper. New papering techniques have made wallpaper more popular than ever and this month our friends at InsideOut provide some insight about choosing a wallpaper to

suit both our homes and our decorating style.

We hope you enjoy reading this issue as much as we have enjoyed putting it together for you. As always, we welcome your feedback and encourage you to put pen to paper (or hands to

keyboard) and let us know what you would like to read about in upcoming issues of intouch magazine. After all – it’s your local-living magazine!
