LESSON PLAN NAME: Callista Szachury DATE: November 5, 2009 SUBJECT: Arts Ed. GRADE: Kindergarten TOPIC: Introduction to Instruments FOUNDATIONAL OBJECTIVES Students will: - Develop an awareness of loud/soft sounds in speech, music, and the environment - Experiment with the voice and instruments by creating and imitating sounds - Experiment with a variety of simple found objects an d selected instruments - With teacher support, make basic decisions about an idea and the sounds or instruments to be used in creating a music expression. SWBAT: - Used instruments in a respectful way to create loud and soft sounds. - Play the instruments together as a group (on a beat) - Learn the signals as when to play and when not to play (staying together – unison) MATERIALS AND AIDS - A variety of instruments Advanced Preparation (if needed): - Set out instruments at desks so that each student’s has one. Give the less noisy instruments to the students who are very enthusiastic to keep the noise level down.  _______________________________________________________________________  _ SET: - Have the instruments sitting on the student’s desk. Explain to the students that each of them will become experts on their instruments at the story area. - Establish a stop playing signal and play signal with the students before they have their instruments in their hands. DEVELOPMENT: - Have the students go to their desks and experiment with the instruments for 2-3 mins - Use the stop signal. Have volunteers stand up and demo their i nstruments sound. - Have the students describe the sound and compare the instruments appearances. CLOSURE: - If time, have the students attempt to play their instruments together as a group in unison.  _______________________________________________________________________  _ EVALUATION
