INTRODUCTION

AIRLINE TICKETSOur staff can recommend the best flight options to Alta Floresta from Brazil’s main urban centers. We request that you arrive in Alta Floresta between 1:00 and 2:00 pm, to facilitate the transfer to Cristalino.

HOTEL TRANSFER The transfer to Cristalino Lodge involves a 1 hour drive, followed by a 30 minute boat ride. Note that transfer schedules are subject to change, due to circumstances that do not allow advance warning.

ARRIVALS: transfer leaves Alta Floresta at 2:30 pm, with arrival at Cristalino Lodge scheduled for 4:00 pm.

DEPARTURES: transfer leaves the Cristalino Lodge at 9:30 am, with expected arrival in Alta Floresta at 11:00 am. We offer our guests lunch in Alta Floresta before their departure.

The point of arrival is the town of Alta Floresta, in the state of Mato Grosso. There are daily jet flights to and from all Brazil’s main cities. Upon arrival, there is a transfer by car, followed by a lovely boat trip on the Cristalino river. Cristalino Lodge is only accessible by boat.

SPECIAL BUNGALOW A spectacular bungalow, with high ceilings and a lovely outdoor bath in a secluded private garden where you can enjoy a relaxing bath surrounded by nature. FLOATING DECKWith its sun loungers, hammocks and parasoles, this delightful floating platform is one of the hotel’s favourite spots. Situated on the majestic Cristalino river and surrounded by lush forest, it is a base where you can bathe in the river, take a break after a walk along a forest trail or enjoy the sunset. In the evening, the open log fire helps to create a cheerful atmosphere for making new friends, celebrating life and enjoying the lush nature and star-filled sky.

RAISED WALKWAYAn attractive walkway extending out over the river bank is the point of arrival for visitors. It represents an invitation to sharpen the senses and appreciate the beautiful things in life, which are displayed here in all their splendor.

AUDITORIUMMeetings and talks about the Cristalino region and other topics are conducted in a pleasant room equipped with a complete audio and video system and comfortable sofas, chairs and tables, which has a seating capacity for 30 people. BIODIVERSITYThe proximity of the Pantanal and Cerrado ecosystems means that many species from those habitats can also be found in the southern Amazon, making it a biodiversity hotspot known as an ecotone. The Cristalino is in a more elevated part of the Amazon, with altitudes ranging between 270 and 450 meters (885 and 1,470 feet) above sea level. That means the river does not flood the forest here, allowing walks along the forest trails at any time of the year and increasing the chances of spotting animals. The irregular terrain in the Cristalino region creates 6 different types of forest, thereby allowing an enormous variety of activities to be carried out amidst the rich biodiversity.

NATURE TOURS This is the program recommended for people who want to get to know the Amazon without a specific focus on birding or photography. Nature tours that combine amazing outdoor activities with comfortable facilities and accommodation. The activities include canoeing, hiking along a variety of trails, excursions to the observation towers to catch the sunrise and sunset, spotting the fauna and flora and boat trips. Recommended stay: 4 to 5 nights.

BIRDWATCHINGBirdwatchers can participate in a program devoted specifically to this activity. We have more than 20 years of experience in the field and our guides are trained to point out, from the trails and observation towers, most of the 595 species that inhabit this biodiversity hotspot. RIVER VARIATIONSThe level of the Cristalino river varies over the course of the year by as much as 5 meters. Between June and November the river is lower, while in March it is at its fullest.

The daytime temperature is hot year round, while cool nights are common, especially during the drier months, from June to October. As in any tropical forest region, there may be occasional storms, which are usually followed by bright, sunny sky.

Ever since it was founded, the protection of biodiversity has been the main source of inspiration and motivation for Cristalino Lodge. Tourists visiting the hotel are collaborating in important initiatives ranging from solar energy for the accommodations, through permaculture gardens for water treatment, to the use of organic produce from the garden. Its efforts in the environmental field have earned the hotel important recognition, such as Global Vision Awards from Travel & Leisure and TripAdvisor’s GreenLeaders certificate, in the Gold category.

ENERGYAll the hotel’s rooms are supplied by a solar power system. In addition to ensuring maximum round-the-clock comfort for our guests, this initiative helps to reduce carbon emissions, by taking advantage of the region’s abundant sunshine.

CONSERVATIONThe Cristalino Private National Heritage Reserve (RPPN) is located in the Brazilian midwest, near the southern edge of the rainforest, not far from the confluence between the Amazon, Cerrado and Pantanal biomes. The 11,399 hectares of the reserve provide an important conservation base, adjoining the Cristalino State Park, which together serve as a wildlife sanctuary for an impressive variety of species, as well as a corridor between the biomes.

CRISTALINO ECOLOGICAL FOUNDATION Established in 1999, the Cristalino Ecological Foundation helps Cristalino Lodge to carry out research and disseminate knowledge about the biodiversity of the Amazon. Hence the studies of botany, climate and animal life in partnership with leading institutions such as the Royal Botanic Gardens. Moreover, environmental education efforts involving children in Alta Floresta and Novo Mundo help to broaden awareness among the more than 5,000 participants who have attended this free program. By visiting the Cristalino Lodge, you also contribute to the work of the Cristalino Ecological Foundation.
