    Introduction

    Welcome to class!

    2nd Nine Weeks

    Classes added because there are a large number of Sophomores. Students will be added to this class all week.

    The students in this class were randomly selected.

    Expectations

    I am here to TEACH. You are here to LEARN.

    Expectations:

    1. I expect you to be quiet and in your seat when class begins.

    2. I expect you to be prepared for class.

    3. I expect you to raise your hand when you have a question.

    4. I expect you to be respectful of your classmates and me.

    5. I expect you to use appropriate language at all times.

    Consequences

    Some of you will make the wrong choice in this class.

    Get this straight: I do not tolerate disrespect.

    I do not tolerate excuses or blaming others when you do not do the

    right thing.

    I expect you all to act like civilized human beings. IF you fail to live

    up to this standard then I will not hesitate to set you straight.

    Consequences (Cont.)

    We will use the Step Approach to address

    classroom infractions.

    Steps:

    1. Conference with the teacher after class.

    2. Phone call to a parent/guardian.

    3. After-school detention with the teacher.4. Referral to the appropriate principal.

    The website will be updated weekly.

    This is your tool to help you if you are absent.

    What to do when class ends

    Make sure:

    All trash is picked up

    All desks are straight

    Everyone is quiet

    Wait for my permission to be dismissed.

    YOU mayNOT leave until I say so.

    When You Are Tardy

    Hand Mr. Highsmith your Tardy Pass.

    Sign the Tardy Notebook.

    3 Tardys = Principal Referral

    When You Are Absent

    Get the assignment or worksheet from Mr.

    Highsmith. Do the work at home.

    If you miss a test because of an excused

    absence, inform Mr. Highsmith and arrange a

    make up time after school.

    If you have an unexcusedabsence, you will

    NOT be able to make up the work.

    Class Assessment (Grades)

    There will be five areas of assessment in thisclass.

    These areas are independent to each other. They are each important to your success.

    I expect you to do good workin this class. We all have different abilities and skill levels.

    Your personal best could be an A, B, or C.

    Tests and Quizzes

    1. Tests and Quizzes (35%)

    Your tests will cover the material we discuss in

    class.

    There will be a test at the end of each chapter.

    Quizzes will be assigned periodically.

    You will be allowed to use your class notes.

    Participation

    2. Participation (20%)

    Each day you will be graded on your participation.

    IF you dont like to talk, DONT worry!

    This system is in place to reward participation and

    GOOD behavior.

    Lesson:

    If you are going to be RUDE, LOUD, DISRUPTIVE, orDISRESPECTFUL, you will NOT get your points for

    participating and your grade will suffer.

    Vocabulary

    3. Vocabulary (15%) Every week on Monday you will be given vocabulary

    work.

    There will be 10-15 words per week. The words will be due on Friday.

    Notes

    4. Notes (10%)

    You will be expected to take notes in class.

    We will take notes off of PowerPoints.

    You will be expected to write down the underlined

    words.

    On test days, I will ask you to turn in your notes

    for a grade.

    Bellwork and Miscellaneous

    Assignments

    Bellwork and Misc. Assignments (20%)

    Bellwork will be the first thing you do every class.

    It will be posted on the projector/board as soon as

    you come in. It is due every Friday.

    Misc. Assignments:

    These will occur throughout the semester.

    They will range from group activities to writingassignments.
