Creating a Presentation

The primary purpose of the Prezi tool is to create presentations. In this section, youwill learn to do just that. First, you’ll learn to gather the right resources and then you’llsee three ways you can create prezis: using a template, starting from scratch, andimporting from PowerPoint.

Gather the ResourcesPrezi has a very limited built-in resource selection. You will most likely desire to provide your ownresources including:

• Images/pictures

• Videos

• PowerPoint slides

Prezi does have an internal diagramming engine that can be used to create several diagram typesthat also work well with the Prezi animation engine.

Using a TemplateThe Prezi template provides both a graphical look and feel and a series of steps on the animationpath. You are not limited to the pre-built steps, but often the image used as the background isprohibitive to flexibility. To use a template:

1. On the Prezi main screen, click New Prezi.

2. Click the template you desire to select it. Notice, you can click the More button to see more templates.

3. In the lower-right corner, click the Use Template button.

Starting From ScratchWhen the templates do not meet your needs, you can simply start with a blank canvas. To start with a blank canvas:

1. On the Prezi main screen, click New Prezi.

2. In the lower-right corner, click the Start Blank Prezi button.

Importing From PowerPointA seldom-noticed feature of Prezi is the ability to import PowerPoint slides. Do this from the Insert button within a prezi.

Using Transitions

Prezi supports three primarytransition types:

1. Proximity

2. Rotation

3. Scale/Zoom

The transition type is selected automatically based on the next targeton the path. For example, to implement a rotation transition, simplyrotate the next target on the path and then view the transition. You willsee that it rotates. Here are some transition facts to remember:

• Proximity: Objects placed farther apart result in faster transitions.

• Rotation: Avoid large rotations, because they can lead to frustrationand even nausea.

• Scale/Zoom: Create larger and smaller frames/objects toforce scaling.

In addition, you can control the animated entrance of frame content.

To fade in content:

1. Place the content within a frame.

2. Choose Edit Path.

3. Click the animation star.

4. Select the objects in the order you want them to appear.

5. Click Done to exit animation mode.

Sharing Presentations

When using the Windows or Mac/Apple off-line Prezi application to create and edit prezis, you cansave them to the local machine only. In many cases, you want to share these local prezis withothers. To do this, you should store it in the cloud. When you want to share a prezi with someonewho does not have the ability or desire to view it as a Prezi presentation, you will have to record avideo of the prezi.

Storing in the CloudTo indicate that a prezi stored “Only on Computer” should be available in the cloud:

1. On the Prezi main screen, choose the Only on Computer link on the left panel.

2. Hover over the prezi you desire to make available in the cloud so that the menu options are displayed.

3. Choose the right menu and select Sync with Prezi.com.

4. The prezi will be uploaded and may take several minutes depending on the content and yourInternet connection speed.

Recording Videos for Non-Prezi UsersTo record a video for non-Prezi users, you will need a screen capture utility such as CamtasiaStudio. This allows you to record your screen as you run the presentation. Then, you can export toany video format you desire.
