The IPC have been associated with a lot of different magazines over the years. From the

Yachting world

Shooting times

Horse and hound

The railway magazine

Cycling weekly

Next from the 1900’s to the 1960’s many more different magazines became a part of the IPC. Magazines like woman which was the cheapest full colour magazine at this time. These big varieties of magazines show that IPC have been associated with lots of different types of magazines. After the 1960’s it is clear that IPC continues to target sport magazines mostly starting from the 1970’s to the 2000’s where IPC is involved with more magazines like:

Motor caravan Wedding & home Bird keeper Practical parenting Motor boats monthly

From learning about IPC’s magazine history, we can see that it has targeted mostly middle aged women and middle aged men increasing its range of magazines which means more audience therefore more magazines being sold.

Why might IPC be an appropriate publisher for a new magazine? What sorts of genres of music/types of magazines might they be likely to publish? Why might alternative publishers like Bauer be appropriate?

IPC would be an appropriate publisher for a new magazine because as we know now that IPC have been associated with a lot of magazines and also targeted different types of magazines. Therefore clearly they have experience in working with particular types of magazines and know what they are doing. For example ‘golf monthly’ and ‘woman’, these two magazines are different types of magazines and have different audience targets. Golf monthly aims its magazine at middle aged men who are interested in gold/sport where as woman is aimed at middle aged woman. From all this it is clear that ipc have the required skill and experience to be a publisher for a new magazine.

I think that they would be more likely to publish hip-hop and r&b seeing as they have worked with magazines containing these types of sub genres a lot, therefore having the most experience at publishing such magazines. Also because more people read hip hop magazines and a lot more people are interested in hip hop they would be more likely to sell the hip hop magazines and benefit from them the most. Bauer could be more appropriate seeing as they likewise with IPC have a deep understanding/knowledge of publishing magazines as it has been publishing magazines since 1875. Also maybe because Bauer have more experience at publishing music magazines then IPC. Another thing to keep in mind is that Bauer has published magazines that are high in demand, like Grazia and MCN. From knowing this it is clear that Bauer have the techniques and skills required in

publishing magazines to be more appropriate then IPC.
