The ISSSeries offersseamless switching forworld-class boardrooms

The Extron ISS Series of Integration SeamlessSwitchers provide seamless, glitch-free switching, as

well as superior scaling with proprietary Extrontechnologies including 3:2 and 2:2

pulldown, Dynamic MotionInterpolation (DMI™),

and patented Accu-RATE Frame Lock(AFL™). With feat-ures such as 16 auto-memories per input,

test patterns forprojector setup,

preview capability, andaudio cross-fade, the ISS Series

is a superb solution for professionalA/V applications that incorporate large screenprojectors and displays. This includes world-classboardrooms, high-end conference rooms, classrooms, churches, auditoriums, or other “live” environmentswhere professional-grade transitions between A/Vsources are essential.

There are two integration seamless switchers in thisseries: the ISS 108 and the ISS 408. Both offercomparable features including eight inputsconfigurable for RGBHV, RGBS, RGsB, componentvideo, S-video, and/or composite video on femaleBNCs and two high resolution scaled RGB outputs onfemale BNCs and/or female 15-pin HD connectors.Stereo audio (balanced/unbalanced) is input on eight, captive screw connectors and is output(balanced/unbalanced) on two, captive screwconnectors. Both seamless switchers in this series arealso available with an optional output board for DigitalVisual Interface (DVI).

In addition to the standard video formats, the ISS 408 also accepts HDTV. The other differencebetween the two models is in the scaled output rateseach support. The ISS 108 can scale 17 different ratesup to 1024 x 768. The ISS 408 supports 32 differentoutput rates, up to 1400 x 1080, and including720p/60.

Each ISS model can ease transitions with professionalvideo cuts and full motion dissolves to ensure thatpresentations flow effortlessly. Optimum flexibility isachieved by the ISS Series “preview” and “program”outputs. This allows a presenter to confidently controlthe presentation by reviewing sources on a local“preview” monitor before switching them to the“program” output for the viewing audience. Thepresenter can continue watching what the audiencesees on the “preview” screen until switching to anothersource. This is beneficial when synchronizing DVD orVCR players, starting from a specific point in a slidepresentation, orchestrating camera angles, andmaintaining a steady and dynamic pace through-outan entire presentation.

Housed in a rack-mountable, 3U high metalenclosure, the ISS series includes a host of controlchoices including RS-232 capability, IP Link™ Ethernetcontrol, or the optional Extron RCP 2000 RemoteControl Panel.

The ISS Series is perfect for“live” environments where professional-gradetransitions between A/Vsources are essential

Dynamic Motion Interpolation (DMI™)Dynamic Motion Interpolation (DMI™) is Extron'sproprietary de-interlacing technology that enablesthe ISS switchers to measure and compensate for

motion artifacts, suchas jaggies, that candistort an image whenvideo is de-interlaced.The DMI processdelivers the bestaspects of still andmotion algorithms andintroduces a new levelof image enhancementcapability withoutcompromising imagefidelity. Utilizing DMI,the ISS switchers areable to providesuperior image quality.

3:2 and 2:2 Pulldown Detection3:2 pulldown detection for NTSC and 2:2 filmdetection for PAL is an advanced film modeprocessing technique. It helps maximize imagedetail and sharpness for NTSC or PAL sources thatoriginated from film. The ISS 108 and ISS 408 usepulldown and film detection to match film to videoframe rates for smoother and more natural video.

Accu-RATE Frame Lock (AFL™)Accu-RATE Frame Lock (AFL™)is a patented technologyexclusive to Extron that solvesframe rate conversion issuesexperienced by video scalers. When video input and outputrefresh rates differ, there arecertain points in time when thetwo rates cross over each other. The result is a glitch or imagefreeze on the display. AFL solvesthis problem by locking theoutput frame rate to the inputframe rate.

Aspect Ratio Conversion withMemoriesThe ISS 108 and ISS 408 feature individual horizontaland vertical image sizing controls with a wideadjustment range. By adjusting the vertical andhorizontal image size controls, the scalers can easilyaccommodate various input signal and display deviceaspect ratios. In addition, the ISS 108 & ISS 408offers three aspect ratio memory presets per inputdirectly accessible by repeatedly pressing the inputselection buttons.

Configurable Inputs The ISS 108 and the ISS 408 each include eightinputs configurable for RGBHV, RGBS, RGsB,component video, S-video, and/or composite videoon female BNCs and two high resolution RGBoutputs on female BNCs and/or female 15-pin HDconnectors. The ISS 408 also supports HDTV. Stereoaudio (balanced/unbalanced) comes in via eight, captive screw connectors and is output(balanced/unbalanced) on two, captive screw

connectors. Both seamless switchers in thisseries are also available with optional

output boards for Digital VisualInterface (DVI).

ProfessionalTransition EffectsAt the heart of its seamless

switching capabilities are the“cut” and “dissolve” transition

effects. Dissolve rates are controlledthrough the front panel menu or other

optional control device.

Test PatternsThe ISS Series outputs 10 different testpatterns including a crop pattern, crosshatch, 16-bar grayscale, color bars, alternating on/off pixels, ramp, 4 x 4 crosshatch, and three aspect ratio patterns. Testpatterns are extremely useful in checkingbrightness, contrast and sharpness, as well asthe convergence of CRT projector and digitaldisplay devices, the proper colortemperature, grayscale linearity, andbandwidth of a video signal. Ultimately, testpatterns aide in preliminary picture set-up,maximizing the potential of the image whileminimizing image artifacts and other noisethat occurs during signal processing.

Scaled Output RatesScaled output rates differ between the ISS 108 and 408. The ISS 108 can output 17different rates up to 1024 x 768. The ISS 408supports 32 different output rates, includingthese popular computer-video, plasma, andHDTV rates:

640 x 480 1024 x 768 480p800 x 600 1280 x 768 720p832 x 624 1280 x 1024848 x 480 1360 x 765852 x 480 1365 x 1024

RS-232 ControlUsing Extron’s Simple Instruction Set (SIS™), RS-232operates via third-party control or Extron'sWindows®-based control program. SIS allows easyRS-232 control with simple, redefined commandsthat minimize the requirements for programming.

IP Link™ Ethernet ControlAn IP integration technology developed by Extronspecifically engineered to meet the needs ofprofessional A/V environments that enables the ISS Series to be controlled and proactivelymonitored over a LAN, WAN, or the Internet. Anintuitive Web interface is also included for suchcommon functions as I/O switching, system control, and online diagnostics and monitoring.

Audio Cross-FadeA unique feature of the ISS Series, audio cross-fadeis activated when the dissolve button is pushed. Thisenables the switcher to simultaneously fade out onesource of audio while fading up another. In thisinstance, the audio is perfectly synchronized with itsvideo counterpart.

Audio Breakaway SwitchingAudio breakaway is another option that allows thevideo and audio to be switched independently fromone another. Audio breakaway is often used whenthe audio and video sources brought together for apresentation are not generated by the same source.

Memory PresetsThe ISS switchers support 16 auto recall memoriesper input, based on the incoming horizontal andvertical frequencies. These memories save sizing, centering, detail, contrast, and brightnessinformation for each source. Automatic recall ofpresets can save an enormous amount of time andeffort in fine-tuning displayed images.

Auto–Image™ Setup A press of a button automatically adjusts the sizing, centering, and filtering to optimize the scaledoutput image. This can save time and effort in fine-tuning displayed images.

RCP 2000 The Extron RCP 2000 is an optional Remote ControlPanel that can be used to operate the ISS Series via anIP Link™ Ethernet connection. The RCP 2000 enablesthe user to select an input, change transition effects, and make adjustments to transition duration andpicture control—all from a remote location. The ISScan be controlled simultaneously by the RCP 2000and through RS-232, offering the user far morecontrol flexibility. In addition to input, transition andpicture buttons, the RCP 2000 is equipped with a T-bar for manual control of dissolve speed, as well as agooseneck lamp for low-light environments.

StagingIn “live” environments, the ISS Series is the difference between a well-paced

presentation and a well-intended but choppy presentation. Operators can switch

sources with smooth “cut” and “dissolve” transitions, while a speaker can deliver

an address without missing a beat.

Boardroom and Conference RoomThe ISS Series is a perfect tool for world-class boardrooms and conference rooms.

A presenter can confidently control the presentation by reviewing sources on a

local preview monitor before seamlessly switching them to the “program”

output, which displays the image for the viewing audience. This can eliminate

embarrassing surprises that can occur if you switch to the wrong input or section

of a program.
