ABSTRACT
Being considered the flower of late autumn, the chrysanthemum blooms when all other
flowers in the garden have already reached their destination. The flower is loved due to its
popularity and colorist wealth. We can meet the flower in the gardens but also in flowerpots,
with different colors, form ad shape. There are known so many variants of chrysanthemum, that
sometimes it is hard to say if they belong to the same botanical family. Chrysanthemum are short
day plants, that is why in order to bloom they need 11 hours of light and 13 hours of darkness out
of 24. Regarding the light intensity they are highly demanding, but the requirements toward
temperature are different, depending on the cultivar. It is known the fact that higher temperature
reduce the quality of flowers and favor the appearance of several pests. Also, the soil for
chrysanthemum should have enough moisture. Drought and water excess are not favorable at all
for these plants. Besides their landscape importance, chrysanthemum was and is used in the
kitchen, but careful due to the salts and vitamins contained. Traditional Chinese kitchen is proud
to have many formulas with the main ingredient the chrysanthemum. Especially, there are used
fresh shoots and leaves, to harmonize the food and to prepare different types of salad. The
different chrysanthemum contain pyrethrums, a substance that have action upon the nervous
system of insects. Chrysanthemum plays also the role of a medicinal plant. In this direction it is
known the fact that women in China love chrysanthemum tea, placing the coffee on a second
place.
